quiet exhausts

Postby MR2SIK » Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:55 pm

Has anyone got some cheap and easy tips to quieten an exhaust?
Not meaning shoving steel wool up my muffler or anything, just something that can be easily reversed.
And no its not so I can be a menace to society on a friday or saturday night. Jst the car spends more time on a track then the road and I dont have the coin to replace the exhaust system AGAIN at the moment.

What about one of those standard shape mufflers that are straight through?
Just put a flange before the muffler so you can swap mufflers for track days.

what if you put a few stainless rivets to hold the silencer in, and argue (if pulled up) that its as permanent as you can get. then drill them out for new wof time

I remember reading someone on here (i think) that you can have the silencer in so long as you can't remove without tools. I.e. a screw would be sufficient

Yeah. I failed in my Forester at VTNZ being too loud.
Kakimoto cat-back system. Got a RPS muffler put on the rear, looked inside the old Kakimoto muffler, EMPTY! Some $&#$% had gutted it, or just over time all the shit had been blown out.

Anyway, they told me the RPS was only just passable, but next time they will fail me and their exact words

I think the words in the VIRM are along the lines of it can not be readily interfered with, so like almost everything in it, it's up to how the inspector interprets it.

which is stupid because a similar setup is used by aston martin and fpv amongst other companies as factory fitment, the valve in the muffler is hooked up to a rev switch, dont see why it wouldnt be legal as an aftermarket mod?

Because people would abuse the "loophole" and put it on a switch etc.

Heaps of cars have setups like that, doesn't exactly make much difference to noise anyway. Even the Crown had on.

And compraing everyday car to Astons, Ferraris etc.... we all know they're noisy as from factory. And most factory stuff doesn't matter when it comes to warrants. Much like how you can get away with dark as hell tints but only if they're factory on that glass

flange with a 1inch hole in it :D bolt it in, close to muffler, be hard to see, dont thrash it,

and then when you drive around on street just use silencer without that flange, and take silencer out for racing
