Silvertop ECU faults

Postby xsspeed » Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:28 pm

Just had a response from a guy on trademe, the Silvertop 4age ecu I sold him is apparently faulty (same fault as what he is trying to replace).
Obviously I am going to refund him.

just wondering if there is a way to verify that the fault is actually in the ecu and not just something else wrong with his car?

Hi xsspeed

When you get the ECU back, undo the 4 screws on the cover that the plastic is taped to and look at the board, mainly just under the caps to see if they are leaking. The telltail will be black or dark brown stains on the board.
I have just replaced the caps in both my rally and roady ae101's both were leaking. This is not hard to do [for me if it ant got oil on it i dont know how to fix it ] but there is a good link in FAQ on how to and what you will need
Cheers

Sometimes they can corrode under the caps and you cant see the fault,
but most of the time you can see evidence.

I can fix them for you too if you want.

Or can do an exchange as I have one here that I have already repaired.

Cheers Matt,
How much would I be looking at, basicaly I'd only repair it to sell on, cos I'm now using blacktop for my project.

I'll open it up when I get back and check what I can see.

The idea would be to try it in a good car first...... it might work. No point in opening it if it works.

When my levin first went into limp mode [after doing a search on the forum and found what what could be the problem] I changed the ECU with the one out of the rally car, and in 150 km it failed. So I took the top off the original ECU, could not see any thing wrong [so i thought] and put it back in the car. It ran for a week then failed so i replaced the caps in both and now everything is going good.
So maybe putting it into a car might show any thing ?? just a thought
