New Link ECUs

Post by DeeCee »

I have just heard some info about the Link G3's being discontinued and a new range coming out soon.
Can anyone confirm or deny what is happening? There is nothing on the website about anything new.

Thanks
Dave

Yeah, G3 has basically been discontinued for a little while now, just been running out all the old stock. The newer G4 replacements should be out around the end of the month, although I now a few of them are already out generally as a plug & play setup as they had run out of the older G2/G3 plugins.

I hope it doesn't mean that they wont get the data logging on the G3's to work like they promised.

It's interesting that Ray Hall's new line of ViPec ECU's are made by Link to his specifications ;)

Sounds interesting..

Well that's what he claims. After his acrimonious split with Autronic he got Link to produce this series of ECU's. Looks more like Link just did some fiddling around the edges of their existing ECU's to meet his "specifications" ;)

Apologies. The new Link ECUs will have the auto tune function.
I'm not sure about the Vi-Pec.

Heh.

Yeah it is funny to see how ViPEC's are being promoted as "way better than Link's". Oh well, probably really good for the company.

I believe auto tune is where you run through a series of situations (ie hold at 5000rpm, WOT from idle, accelerate to 100km/hr) and the ecu takes on the information from the engines sensors and generates a fuel/ignition map from that information. It continues to adjust the map as you progress through the steps, with an end result of a fairly safe/generic map (allowing you to start and drive the car) without the risk that doing so with a packaged map/tune can give.

For example, the basemap that ships with powerfc's for R33 RB25DET engines is notorious for running far too lean to drive safely to a dyno tuner. If it had an auto tune, it would negate this problem as the ECU would adapt to your engine setup when you first install it.

This is all rough interpretation of what I have read online.

hondata auto tune explained:

http://www.hondata.com/featuresautotune.html

its pretty rough but will be good enough to get it driving without blowing a motor to bits. i dont think i would want to try it on a boosted motor but you could drive around to a dyno without using the boost. it also doesnt change the timing.
