Is 400000kms high for a hilux?

Postby bs » Sat Aug 09, 2008 2:40 pm

Been thinking about getting a hilux for work etc.

Just woundering if 400,000kms is a bit high? Its a 3L manual diesel.

Cheers

^^ true true.

Must be on a low budget if you have to look at one with that many Kms though i'm guessing  Personally i'd probably go for something with lower kms as at that sort of mileage, everything in the truck has done that mileage, so maintenance could be more expensive than one with less kms

The engine and box would be fine imo, but other bits like alternator and wheel bearings, water pump etc will start to show their age.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

i have a mate whos lux has done just over 400k the ignition system is a bit sad (rough idle some time) and he's replaced a suspect headgasket.
it's a pertol engine (does 22r sound right) anyways the rust is starting to get in to the doors a bit too, it' a 1992 model.

something with that many kms, it really depends on how its been maintained. but if it HAS been maintained, then theres no reason it cant do another 400km :P

diesel engines will last and last...if they are well mantained, theres no reason why one wont reach 1 million k's(alot of the heavy truck engines do ) will little or no need for any major overhaul, they key is maintanance.

if i was looking ta that truck id be wanting to know alot of its history and priced accordingly

thats a lot of cash for those kays.....

certainly doesnt look like its been owned by a company recently!
if they can show you a detailed service history then have a look. youd want to be sure things like ball joints etc have been done within the last 100-150ks. also regular coolant changes and oil changes (3 months 5k)
if not, walk away.

I dont care what it is, thats a lot of km's.

Maybe its a toyota, maybe its a diesel, whatever. Maybe if everything has been overhauled it would be fine but with km's like that theres always another component ready to give up.

Perhaps 400,000 is low for this truck, but not as low as 200,000.

Yeah I was kind of heasating hence why I asked on here. 400000ks is quite a lot, thought it was a bit to pricy for that many to.
But never the less I shall keep on looking.

yeah no matter how well maintained anything with that many kms should be sitting in the lower range of prices...
