If your last name is spelt wrong then it's not your name is it? So the cop has issued a ticket to someone with a similar name to you.

At the end of the day, if you speed, you ARE breaking to law, so should be prepared to pay the fine. I've been fortunate to get off a couple in my time.

I was always told that the new laws stated that if you exceed the speed limit by 50%, then you lose ya licence.
(Ie. 75 in a 50, 120 in a 80, 150 in a 100 etc...) Is this not correct??
And no...Im not using this as an excuse to speed

WHAT!!!
You can demand to see the radar reading and the current calibration of the radar gun. They should be able to produce it. That seems dodge to me.
I got asked if I wanted to see the radar reading when I got pulled over.

Having said that, if they can't, it'll come down to your word over his/hers, as to the speed you were doing. The police officer obviously would be the winner in most cases there.

This happenned to me, My last name is Roskruge, they spelt it Roskrudge,
Another time they wrote my licence number wrong, both times i wrote a letter, more or less saying how could that be me, what if it was someone else and I was getting fined, this could lead to many problems and you guys should sort out the accyracy of tickets.etc.

Got a response, pretty much said the officer has made a small mistake, still valid ticket.

After that I wasnt fussed about paying it, I mean I was speeding and shouldnt have been. I tried to get out of it and couldnt.

Needless to say fines were hurting my wallet so made a more conscious effort to keep to speed limits.
These were infringements for 10 - 20km over the limit so nothing huge, but hey still illegal innit.

Here's another f***ed example of people getting off a ticket.
My uncles friend from up Coromandel way (Opito Bay), got pulled over for doing ~110km/h with a trailor. He's a relatively big guy and when he proceded to have a major b*tch session with the cop about how everyone else was actually going faster than him, he ended up getting off the ticket. What's up with that!!! He had a trailor, so his speed limit was lower than the other drivers.
If I was the cop, I would have booked him 8)

Exactly what I said, How can you prove that I did that speed when you cant even show me the reading. She just said well if it goes to court its my word against yours.

So I sighed, said For F***s Sake and took the ticket

Bugger!

I got off a 142km/h (In a 80km/h zone) speed camera ticket a couple of years ago.
Fair enough though, cause it was of my car that was stolen a few months before. It was me EE80 Sedan with Silvertop 20V motor in it. I thought, damn my car was fanging it.
I wrote a letter and the reply was, "after careful consideration, we have decided to waive the fine. We consider this issue resolved" (or words to that effect) Hahahaha, no $hit!

I got the photo sent to me anyway, to see the F*ckers that had my car. Turned out to be a Legacy Wagon with my Corolla's number plates. DAMN!!!

A cops word againt yours is not a good way to go. The cop will always win........ or will they.

My mate Stefan got pulled over in his Commodore heading out of Hamilton, going towards Morrinsville. He got pulled over by a cop and he asked him if he knoew how fast he was going. Stfan said "yeah I think I was doing 100. The cop said "That's right, I got you at 99km/h"
After my mate explained it was in a 100km.h zone and the cop still wouldn't budge, they drove back to where the open road speed limit sign was. The cop let him off

^ and yet they still tried to get you with the fine, though the car was different  barstards.
As for getting to see the radar/laser reading, someone challenged this in court a couple of years back and won, so common law should apply (though you would have to go to court which is a hassle)

40k over is close enough, especially if its something stupid like road works where the road works are finished and have been for weeks, but the contractor has forgotten to pick them up, or the signs are hidden behind cars or trees etc. Or they've changed the speed limit on a road you drive regularly & you haven't noticed

they have been ublicised.. last thing i read, said if the new laws go ahead 25% of any given speed limit, in any area, will result in loss of license...

The difference being in this case is , he didnt put wrong info on, he has left vital info completely off the ticket, how can they send me a follow up letter to enforce a $0 fine, Please Mr BzzzR send us a cheque for $0 ?? There is nothing for them to enforce.

No its not.

No cop has to show you anything. They do not have to lock you.

Most will show you as it stops people whining, but from a legal point of view, they don't have to show you anything.

I was under the impression you can see the calibration cert, the radar with your speed AND the last two tickets issued.

So the cop cant just go round with the radar showing 122 issuing everyone with that speed.

Dunno if its true, cant remember where I heard / who told me that but the story with it went that the guy got pulled over and he reckoned he may have been doing 110 or what ever and the cop was trying to ping him for 122. Turned out the last ten or so tickets issued were all for 122 and the cop was taking the piss.

Im pretty sure this is true. the postie drivers always asked to see the gun and the cert and if its not a current cert you DONT have to pay the fine.
And how are they supposed to fine someone if they spelt the last name wrong thats just utter BS it could be anyone. My middle name is peter and on the ticket it is joseph you cant say thats is a slight spelling error!!!

Yeah, I was under the same impression.

Good thing I don't speed much any more, I'd never get off any tickets these days.

There is a software developer in Aussie who has demanded to see the source code of the software used to calibrate them to verify that there are no bugs in it...

I'd imagine that the company that makes them will be less than keen to share that information.

Man there are some wanky people out there. I mean good on him for having a go, but bloody hell, it's only a fine.

Maybe this is what happened to me, I got done for 121, but I'm pretty sure it was more like 160
