Smacked into by red light runner

Postby cat007 » Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:13 am

Useless excuse for a human drove straight through a red light at speed as I was turning with a green arrow.

I couldn't move to the left to get out of his way as there was another oncoming car turning right with a green arrow as well.

Went to the cop shop in the avo and they said they probably wont even give the cu.nt a fine - even though he admitted to running the red and changing lanes while in an intersection AND I have another eye witness who saw the whole thing and saw him run the light.

Good thing I wasn't 2 seconds earlier or he would've T-Boned us, smashing into my partners door :x

Here's a drawing:

Here's the car before - sexy!

And here's it after - not so sexy.....

According to the diagram shouldn't the LEFT of your car be smashed?

Gutted mate... for the sake of waiting for a minute at the lights he has caused a bunch of hassle for both yourself and him :x

Nah - I ended up scrapping all down the drivers side of his car. Would've been a head on if the abs didn't work. he was going full speed to - mad me so angry.

talk about a hassle. The bumper is totalled and its not a "common" bumper so I'm told. I/we wont settle for anything other than what was on it. I/we don't want a shi.tty nudge bar.

Now I've really got to get the supra going haha

lay charges and if they "won't even fine him" ask to speak to someone higher up the food chain that will actually do something about it.

I would take this so far the guy will be scared to get behind the wheel again. As you say you were just lucky he didn't hit your partners door.... would the cops do anything then? Keep badgering the cops aye as this is the kind of thing they SHOULD actually act on.

I guess they are too busy out fining people for loud exhausts to give a f**k about our actual safety on the roads. Its ridiculas that they have this attitude towards your situation. Don't back down man

Gutted :( My experience with fines given by cops to people who aren't young or driving "zippy" cars is pretty unimpressive.

I had an accident while driving the Honda a couple of years ago whilst driving along a 100kph zone which had a vege shop on the side of the road to my left. As I was driving along, a dozy lady in a RAV4 coming from the opposite direction decided it was a good idea to turn across the middle of incoming traffic into the vege shop despite the fact that there was a car about 20m away from her heading in her direction at 100kph. Not the best idea I've come across myself, and it did neither of our cars damage - earning us a ride to Palmy hospital in an ambulance and two written off cars.

She got a fine for failing to give way!! It cost us untold in public transport, we both had time off work, lost money on the car we would have otherwise kept forever and weren't able to replace with an equivalent of as well as the bits and pieces we couldn't claim for insurance on in there - not to mention injury (fortunately minor in the grand scheme) sustained. I can't imagine what I'd have got for doing the same thing in the Skyline!!!

Keep on the cops, say if they do nothing you want charges laid against the idiot driver & you'll make a complaint to the Police complaints authority over their failure to do the job they're paid to do.

Also your insurance company will usually want them charged so they can get the cash easier.

The cops probably just can't be assed doing the paperwork, or they're one of those new 'oh shit we need more cops lets just accept whoever turns up' cops that can't write or spell

But sucks to hear about it

+1

I'm $&#$% fed up with amount of times to and from work I've almost been hit by these red light running pricks. They obviously don't care about potentially killing someone.

Should've called the cops from the scene

Also if he's charged, his insurance company may walk away from him leaving you having to chase him for the money (unless you have comprehensive coverage) or at the least he may change his story (which if you have decent witnesses isn't that much of a problem) but it will drag things out
