oil leak from the back of engine (supra)

Postby sideways soarer » Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:45 am

hey guys,

i have an ma70 with a 7mgte and i was haing a look under the car in the weekend and noticed quite a bit of oil leaking, it looks like its coming from between the block and the bell housing, and the a little more between the bell housing and the gearbox (gear box is a w58).

engine still has plenty of oil and gear box still shifts smoothly and no funny noises or anything, so im not sure how long it has been doing it for and not sure if its coming from the enginge oil or the gear box oil.

i checked the stock oil pressure gauge (digi dash) and it goes up to 5 bars when started but then drops down to 2 bars and stays there, even under hard acceleration it stays at 2 bars, is that normal? seems abit low to me, i always thought the oil pressure should increase as you accelerate

has anyone else had this problem before? is there a gasket or something in between these parts that may have failed? any ideas from the supra gurus out there would be much apreciated :D

Rear crank seal...http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=EM&P=87

Easy enough to replace with out removing alloy retainer

Oil presure system is high volume low presure mine runs 2 bars on dig dash up to 5 for a short time hard into it

Factory guage is slow to react and senders crap out

How to check presure http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=LU&P=4

Left side of the box at half way mark just in front of reverse light sensor

That bolt is fn tight careful not to round power bar with a jack makes it easy

Take out the stick and fill from there

Check the bushing the stick sits on and at the end of the the stick at the same time

Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90 is what I put in my W58 buy from http://www.staparts.co.nz/
