finding out a cars "build" year

Postby beeker » Thu Aug 28, 2008 8:10 pm

I have a AE85/6 race car and its registered as a 1987 on its NZ rego paperwork. However, if its pre-1987, it classifies as historic. So.. i'm guessing as a long shot that it was 1st registered in 1987? and that there is a chance it was made prior?

Anyway you can get the build date from the chassis number or alike ?

I made a thread about this a while ago, Sergei posted a Russian site that will tell you the year and month it was made.

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=53862&highlight=build+date

I'm sure if you check there and then ask nicely he'll translate for you.

Производитель: Toyota

Looks like March 1987, so I guess you're out of luck.

Lets hope they roll the historic rating by 1 year every year then.

What I cant understand with your car is if it is 1987 then it sould the facelift model, which it doesnt look like it, unless some has changed the headlights, grill, side lights, front bumper etc... to pre facelift??

It may have ID plates from another car????

Another interesting note the details for you car give a 4A- number for the engine where it would have been originally a 3A- unless you can change that when an engine convertion is done????

The original builder of the car had 2x cars. An AE86 for him, and a Ae85 for the wife. The Ae85 was mint, so they transferred all the Ae86 bits to the AE85 shell during the race car build. Probably explains things.
