Perfect tuesday afternoon

Postby trdtrueno » Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:05 pm

left my car parked outside school at pukekohe, come out of school to find cops and people around my car...wtf??? turns out some idiot had lost control while doing handbrakes and lost it into my car pushing my car into the one next to it and then the guy drives off....luckily there were enough people who saw it to call the police and he got caught. i was told he probably wouldnt have insurance, soo not happy. had to get a quote from the panel beaters and to get it fixed is going to cost $5000....car is a AE101 trueno by the way. and i only have 3rd party insurance so thats a bugger aswell.

am more angry about the fact that i know nothing about the guy and whats going to happen, basically know nothing and when i went to the cop station today to drop the damage report off they didnt tell me anything either....

sorry if i got carried away...oviously not happy as now i am without a car and not sure when its going to be sorted. wouldve thought id have some idea by now at least....

Check your insurance policy. Some companies have payouts (usually up to about $3k) to insure you against uninsured drivers. Check it out anyway, you got nothing to lose!

Yet again, cops too busy fining loud exhausts i'm sure. Just keep hassling them on a daily basis until they do something. I know I would aye. I've read about that 3k too, with many witnesses and him being caught at least you have a chance to get something. Sucks that its pretty much written off tho

full insurance ftw

um not to sure about that...will have a look at that $3000 thing...im with NAC. all i was told by the cops before my car got towed off was that the guy wasnt likely to have insurance and that the matter would have to go through court and in worst case senario he would be paying me off weekly.....i hope it doesnt come to that. that was all i was told about the guy as some other cops were dealing with the guy.

AE101 < $5k sad but true easier to write it off.
I would have thought that you'd be able to get cover from a "real" insurance company with a Trueno as it's only a 1.6? Or is the word "Trueno" on the blacklist?

yeah they will usually happily insure a Levin or a Trueno....but if it has mods it becomes are car thats so powerful and "at risk" to insure they don't want to go there :P

Depends on company of course. But I called up AMI for a quote, got a price etc, then mentioned mags, lowered and body kit and the dude wanted to pass me onto their "high risk" or whatever department, so I gave up. This is with 60% no claims and 1 speeding fine in the last 2 years

Yeah they don't like ANY mods, hell AMI wouldn't insure my '86 for $6000 (what it was worth back at the time) as it had been in storage and they thought something 1983 wouldn't be worth that. WTF!!##(#

yea i agree....or if it ends up coming to weekly payments...he should take out a loan, give me the money and then make weekly repayments to the people who gave him the loan. havnt heard anything yet, so will go back to the station on monday. panel beaters valued my car at $6000 so thats why its not a write off.....i was surprised at that.

I regularly see AE101s for sale at that price or even more, heck I paid $5k for my FXGT because it was the mintest one I found, I did plenty of research on the price before I bought it, maybe not Levins and Truenos as much, but FXGTs certainly sell at $5k, sometimes more. I was willing to pay a little more than I ideally wanted to for something that hadn't been thrashed or cheaply modified, as most AE101s are these days!

We're just so used to buying cars cheaply through the forums, mates or good deals on trademe, that we forget what your average public are willing to pay for them.. :)

I had a similar story with my car. My insurance company were willing to cover cost of up to 3k and i had to cover the rest. How much is your car insured for with NAC? Mine was a ae111 bzg and they wanted to write it off with the same damage value as yours 4k. So im suprised they havent written if off yet. Im thinking the panel beater has values it at a higher price just so that he can get the job.

im pretty sure it may be insured for $3000, but its only 3rd party that i have so im not quite sure, going to ring them tomorrow and see what the deal is and what they reckon. as far as panel beating goes...... i dont really care about how much its gunna cost because im not the one going to be paying for it. this scumbags gunna pay up one way or another. i just hope its sooner rather than later
