Law on side mirrors?

Postby Urban-Cruiser » Sun Sep 07, 2008 2:23 pm

Friend had their side mirror smashed last night. Completely fuct. Whats the law on having only one? Would the car pass a wof? It's a 1990 car.
I just told them to take off the other. Or go to a wrecker. They are freaking out about getting pulled over.

Homer: Exactly. And why are we poor? Because we have kids.

I didn't have a drivers side mirror on my charade (1988) and it passed a VTNZ wof.

I got pulled up without one and the cop said something about it and I just said I didn't need it for a wof and I was sent on my way

you only require either a the internal rear view mirror or a RHS rear view mirror to pass a wof, in saying that if the casing etc is there it must be all good and working.

as above, you can pass a WOF with just an internal rear view mirror fitted.

jagged external projections aren't allowed so if it is broken and sticking out then can be pulled up on it but as above - internal rear view only.

I've passed WOF's for 3-4 years without a passengers side one with the side casing still there. Both at Toyota & VTNZ.
Though I think you were meaning just the drivers side one, surely the requirements are the same for both wing mirrors.

mine was cause i was too lazy to get another one, and I was still living in studentville where some idiots think breaking wing mirrors at night is a fun game

The law is you m ust have at least one rear vision mirror i.e internal or one drivers side mirror i pass vtnz warrants all the time and my saprinter has no internal mirror.

Also if you have the mirror it must be secure and not cracked hence why i have no internal rear vision mirror it was missing when i brought my sprinter from turners guessing it was cracked and the importer just pulled it out :P
