Anyone ever tried rebuilding trd shocks

Hey as above i've got rear trd shocks, 8 way adjustable damper off an ae101 in my fx race car and noticed both were leaking oil. I've got hold of toyota here in Chch and one of the parts guys is finding out any info if you can get parts. In the meantime has anyone ever managed to get new seals from a supplier and put new hydraulic oil in them and they're good as newe? I don't want to buy new trd shocks as my budget definitely doesn't stretch that far. All help appreciated

Provided you can get them apart without cutting them, chances are they can be rebuilt. The problem is in getting the seals, all the other parts can be made easily. Been there & done most of the common aftermarket jap stuff before without issues except waiting for seals or having to make new seal heads to suit locally available seals.

I'm with Bazda on this one, it usually works out cheaper to fit a koni/bilstein etc insert into the same body. Something which can be rebuilt locally.

Yeah i was going to attempt to get seals myself and try and get normal hydraulic oil if it keeps cost down. I'd rather not splash out on new shocks if i can successfully re-co these units myself. Where did you get seals from atmo?
as for the koni's you guys mean fixed rate inserts or damper adjustable units to go into housing?

And they have locknuts which i found out, that's the good bit. They do come apart without issues

They are 8 way damper adjustable standard replacements, meaning they have stahdard spring platform, off ae101. I have done some measuring of the shaft and cartridge for legth. Appears that they look sealed inserts. I still want to give it a go with new hydraulic oil ane seals. Are they oil only or nitrogen filled aswell?

Some of the seals I've been able to source locally from Seal Imports/SealHouse etc or been able to substitute in basically the same seal from a Kayaba/Showa etc bike shock. Some like Tein etc(Before Autolign started doing them) I was able to source from overseas.

Huge difference between hydraulic oil & shock/fork oil. Base stock is similar but the additives are different & the weight/viscosity are generally different, although all shock/fork oil manufacturers have there own idea on what is a 5weight etc. A lot of hydraulic oils don't have the same anti-foam properties as shock oil & alo the viscosity of hydraulic oil can vary a fair bit it temperature whereas shock oil seems to be more consistent. Just my observations from days on a shock dyno & also from reading about oils & talking to the manufacturers plus back to back testing.

Yes they have gas filled stamped on them, plus alot of oil came out when i pulled the cartridge out. shock numbers for left and right hand side are 48540 ae081 and 48530 ae081 respectively. So can you regas them or is it a case of either buying new trd units or modifying the tube to get aftermarket replacements

Righto, have just been in the shed.
There are 6 pairs of TRD race springs. These are all 73mm ID. (this is not common size and cannot be used with standard platform and hat.)

I couldn't easily get at them. If anybody has any interest in these I'll drag em out on Saturday. All are marked with the part # and are unused.
Lengths range from about 180mm to 240mm I would guess.

Im looking for some 10kg front and 8kg rear springs to fit AE111 (same as Ae101,92) TRD circut spec coilovers. Would these fit?
