Fastest NZ Normally Aspirated 4 cylinder Quarter Mile ?

Postby Hybridd » Thu Sep 18, 2008 2:11 am

Hi

Here in South Africa we have some pretty fast Normally Aspirated 4 cylinder cars , some street legal and some not.

-Toyota AE92 Hatchback - Blacktop 20 valve - 13.5 sec
-Opel Corsa - C20XE - 2 litre 16 valve - 11.2 sec
-Ford Lazer - 2 litre 16 valve - 11.6 sec
-Golf 1 - 2 litre 16 valve - 11.2 sec

What are some of the times for the NZ Normally Aspirated brigade down there ?

No comparison's , just keen to know.

Regards..

Damn! What's that had done to it? That is quick for a 20 valve.

Hmmm, Hondas seem to be the better N/A fours here.

My mate Deanis has done a 12.7 sec in his B18C powered CRX.

A guy from Hamilton (Andrew Johnston) is going even faster in his CRX. He's got a stroked and bored out B18 (now up to over 2 litre) from memory, with a whole lot of work done to it.
Gary Thorburn had a Pro Class N/A Civic with a hotted up K20A in it. Can't remember what his best times were though.

I'll see if Deanis can elaborate more on this.

Didn't Kelford's Civic run a 10 without nitrous?
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Fastest times I can think of off hand:

Kevin Ban - 10.8 @ 126mph in Kelfords NA H22A Honda Civic (10.9 with B18C+NOS)
Gary Thorburn - 11.3 with his old K20A Honda Civic
Andrew Johnston - 11.8 with his B18C EF CRX
Tony/Toy - 11.8 with his K24A EK Civic
<some dude> - 11.9 with his K20A Lotus Elise (this time/run quite fuzzy but around here)
Reg Cook - 12.2 with his SR20DE NX Coupe

To be fair NA 4cyl drag racing isn't big here so you don't hear so much about it. There are some pretty nasty NA rotaries here though haha. Hondas basically have the NA 4cyls dominated, fastest NA 4AGE was a fairly hot one I've seen was doing 13s in a KP Starlet shell. There are a few rapid Nissan 4cyl NAs and the Mitsis haven't even cracked 13s that I am aware of.

Can't remember what it was, but a Civic/CRX looking thing which was racing in pro class in Honda VS Toyota drags and was running 10's, the only car I lost to in the whole event.

What colour was it and what year HvT? Given your car is turbo, if you raced it in competition it would probably have to have been turbo!?

would have been garys k20 civic, he brought that to a few club days.

lith has got most of the top players in there.

everyone on nzhondas is trying to get tony to put his k24 into a lighter car. that will run mid 10s with the power its making in a 700kg car with the right setup. its 324 horse at the wheels. i think they had tuning problems with that that are sorted now so might be even more power soon.

heres a mad build thread on it.

http://nzhondas.com/forum/build-threads ... build.html

there is another CRX in the build that has the capability to run mid 11 down in napier/hastings way.

FBi civic will be another 11 second contender:

http://nzhondas.com/forum/build-threads ... 8-5-a.html

im the fastest with an 1800cc engine. really need the cubes to get it goin faster.

there is replacement for displacement, except in the allmotor class.
12.7@174kph. no turbo, no supercharger, no NOS, ALLMOTOR.

2005? or 2006, I can't remember, I'm getting old. That honduh ripped me a new one, it was towards the end where you just race anyone I think. I was put to race with that pro class honduh. The only way I would've won that drag race was if the driver fell asleep, it was way too fast.

Im sure Kevin Ban ran a 10.90 something a couple of years ago, na, no nos when it got the h22a build but Im sure its only done one and hasn't managed to run another one yet. I could be wrong as it was a while ago and I do remember thinking it didnt actully look like a 10. I do remember it runing the 10.90 with nos in 2004 at the southisland champs though.

Guys , your NZ cars are mighty impressive.

On another note :

Whats the fastest time a 4AGE 16 valve Turbo car has run down there ?

Our record stands at : 8.8 seconds

This was with a Nissan bakkie , I think you guys call it UTE hey ?

It has a 4AGE Series 3 i think with a ball bearing Turbo and is rear wheel drive.

Hows that for a 1587cc Toyota hey ! This thing busts a lot of Honda's this side and the best thing is :

ITS STREET LEGAL !

Yeah T1MID managed a 10.5 with its 4AGTE, thats the fastest in NZ. The only really fast Toyotas in NZ are powered by 2JZs and 1UZs. The EVO guys are really the only ones that get that serious with 4cyls here - we have a couple of 8s ones (neither are street cars however) though there is an SR20DET Datsun which has done a 7.6 hahaha.

Have you any more on that Bakkie? 8.8s out of a 1.6litre street car is a bit insane - never heard of anything like that.

This as far as I know is South Africa's fastest Bakkie which has done 8.6 @ 252kph and runs a Mazda FE-series 2litre and while it retains the leaf rear end and is mostly stock chassis I wouldn't call it a street car:

T1MID was a 20 Valve 4AGE though. Bredon's examples were 16V heads.
That's what VORTEXX was asking about.

Oh true, missed that - I tend to ignore qualifiers which don't really mean anything in relation to class haha. Though, I do have the fastest Skyline with the licence plate LITH in the world :)
