1MZ-FE... Are they worth touching?

Postby UZZ30 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 10:40 pm

Hi guys,

I've noticed the 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6 motors around in VVTI and non VVTI versions... After looking at some specs on the internet they don't sound too bad and apparently share similarities with the 1UZ-FE - but I could be wrong!

I'm asking as a mate of mine is looking to do an engine conversion in a ute of his, but wants an alternative to a 1UZ-FE/2JZ-GE or other motors so I was wondering if a 1MZ-FE would be worth bothering with..... like having one custom fitted to a W58 gearbox or whatever?

Any input would be great.

Cheers.

Pretty sure they mount up to 3S/5S bellhousings, hence why they're a popularish choice for the MR2.

Since you can get an 'S' bellhousing for a W55 etc, it could possibly be pretty straight foward in terms of mounting it up to a rwd gearbox.

However wouldnt pick one over a 1UZ, for any reason that springs to mind though.

hmm well presumably it would mean some customisation of the intake and exhaust due to them being setup for FWD applications. There may be other 'packaging' issues as well...which im sure you will run into with the 1uz as well but at least the end result is cooler :)

1uzs arent that expensive either?

if he's got $$ then get a 1GR-FE out of a 2005+ hilux. gonna be paying around $4500 from a dismantler, they are a torque monster of an engine. big torque from 1000rpm thru to 6500rpm.

Turbo a 3RZ and slam that in there.

If it's a Nissan ute, then a turbo TD42. Then proceed to tow small towns.
