Petrol did go up like 20 dollars a barrel, which translates into about 20 cents a liter, how ever petrol has been about 16cents a liter "over priced" for the last couple of weeks (hence the bigger fuel discount vouchers available, there's a bit more room in the margin for them), so that jump of 20 dollars will probably take up that 16 cents and only show up as a 5 cent per liter increase.

The whole thing about taking time for the gas to get to the stations at that price, is not how they really do it. For each liter you buy at $1.95, they have to replace at $2, they align the pump price to the whole sale market price, and then put it up or down a little every so often to make up any shortages or let out any build up (though this is more often done through vouchers these days).

They do try put it as low as they can, because in the long run, quite a lot of driving (in the general population rather than us, and excluding trades men ect) can be substituted with public transport.

They still drive very BIG cars in USA remember!

also NZ is the only country where petrol prices go up within a couple of days of price of barrel going up.
In Aus they can't put the price up for a couple of weeks or so. Saves them from ripping off people if the price of barrel peaks over a couple of days...

Yep it's only $3.70 or something here in Texas. Oh that's per Gallon too hehehe. Not that it really bothers me, work pays for all the gas we use :D
Big cars everywhere, they still b*tch about the price of gas being too high though. They're like framers in NZ, always have something to complain about hahaha.
I've seem more Hummers than I care to.

Barrel price was up near $150 a few months ago, petrol price didn't go over $2.20 (ish?). I know the dollar and everything plays into it, but barrel price is still only $120 or so.

And wasn't there the biggest single day barrel price drop in a few years about 3 weeks ago? Which took about 5c off the pump price lol

(this applies to small towns, atleast >>) the petrol at the gas station costs them ~96c and they sell it for $1, in the morning its still the same petrol and still costs them 96c, they wont change the price to $1.20.

they can only make a price increase when the delivery truck delivers petrol that has a higher cost than the last lot.

so if the price of oil went up, it would still take a while for the petrol to reach NZ and the pumps.

im sure im right, if im wrong; &$#% off.

paul

You're wrong.
