Auto 3S to manual

Postby RS13 » Fri Oct 03, 2008 4:26 pm

When putting a previously auto 3SGE into a manual car, what will I need to change over, or is it just flywheel and I'm away?

Cheers.

You may strike it lucky and find it has the same bolt pattern crankshaft, if not you may have a headache trying to find a flywheel with the auto crank pattern

Yeah I've ran an auto motor in manual config, no probs with bolt pattern on crank shaft or whatever.

IIRC all 3SG(T)E's have the same 8 bolt PCD except for the gen 1, and I think the 3SFE/5SFE/etc have a smaller PCD, or 6 bolt to flywheel, or something making them different.

Awesome, thanks guys. So there isn't any extra idle control or anything on the inlet manifold? And I don't need to change the spigot bearing?

3SGTE uses a slightly different PCD to 8 bolt 3SGE, 3SFE and 5SFE cranks.

in the 2nd gen 3SGE's there IS different crank patterns between auto and manual but not ALWAYS. Seems to be luck of the draw

Most 3S-G crankshafts, apart from early model ST162, ST165, ST171 & SV21s (which changed in the last months of production) are the same part #, including the Beams engine.

Engines from the following chassis codes all use 13411-74909 ( some are superceeded from 13411-74903 to this part#)
ST162 *8907-8908
ST165 *8907-8908
ST171 *8907-9202
ST182
ST185
ST195
ST202
ST205
ST206
ST215
ST216
SV21 *8907-9007
SV32
SV33

As per above. I personally have not had any probs converting auto to manual in any 3SGE gen2 motor i have come across, and I have manual converted a few. I have come across some gen1 (normally FE motors) with different bolt pattern but other than that I thought they were all the same turbo and NA. Just that the turbos ran a bigger flywheel which is obvious.

Yes, 3S-FE crankshafts are definitely different to 3S-G(T)E versions.

Also, best way to remove 3SGE? I'm aiming for taking the motor and box together out the top, I've seen people drop the engine out the bottom, But I've never done this, and I don't think the hoist could handle it!

Also, I've only got the PS pump to do, looks like its' gonna be a bastard, I wanted to keep the lines all together preferably. Am I going to have to disconnect it, or is it possible to reach up from underneath and undo it from the engine?

Any other tips or things to watch out for?

Cheers.
