Or Skoda... but really, both insults(meaning datsun/beetle) have so very little to do with their sport cars that it's pointless. It's like saying the Holden Barina/Astra/Vectra/whatever is representative of the Commonwhore R8, clearly it's not.

Do I think that Nissan did it?
probably, I'm not qualified to argue either side.

If I was Porsche would I be pissed off about it and find any reason to discount it as a fluke?
hell yeah, protect the brand at all costs.

Dunno if I agree, they're probably doing more damage to the brand being whiny little girls. End of the day, The GT-R is still a Nissan, and I wouldn't think that the large majority of Porsche buyers would consider it an alternative as it lacks the "status" of the 911 (And I know there will probably be a bunch of people here who disagree, but how many of you are the target demographic for either car??)

Of course if they actually have a legitimate claim, then fair enough they should speak up.

Absolutely, Porsche will pull all stops to defend themselves against the GTR and its rep vs. Porsche's - the fact they are doing so obviously shows its challenging them.

The "just a Datsun" comment was just as funny as anything else, it was one of the must retarded debunks someone could have possibly used - its nothing more than saying European cars are better because they are. My Dad is stronger than your Dad because he's my Dad. Nissans suck because they're not V8s, despite them kicking our Falcodore's arses.

I didn't argue with the Datsun comment because Datsuns/Nissans/whatever you want to call them have been giving headaches to or beating up on Porsches in motorsport for decades.

If all else fails, for the money one can pay for a Porsche 911/GT2 you could buy a brand new R35 GTR and throw the now available Nismo catalog at it and still have the price difference in change to maybe do Targa?

GT-R's have proven themselves on the track over and over again. Not much else can be said.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

The R35 was developed for a good part on that track!

heh, sorry, no I don't think porsche is doing anything good for their image bitching about it either, but if I were them I would be doing my darnedest to dis-prove Nissans claims.

7:54 is a fair way off! Considering its performances on Silverstone/Fuji/Tsukuba/Manfeild/Top Gear test track it seems odd that it did that "slow" on the Nur.

I wonder if the car's GPS recognizes the Nur as a circuit and lifts the 180k limiter or not..... would be nice of Porsche to show their lap as a video to see exactly whats going on. A side by side in car would really show where the Porsche is winning as power alone won't add a 20s advantage and typically the GTR has the Porsche up in trumps on cornering.

Unless of course their ring specialist was braking and cornering like he would in the Porsche and the thing was yawning haha

/Cynic

So, you're saying that when Porsche provided both cars, and the driver ... the Porsche went faster?

WHOAH, what are the odds of that happening?

oh wait....

man, all this porsche that, nissan that... its like watching holden vs ford or something.

the fact is, for the price of the nissan - porsche should be ashamed that its even close to their top end cars, let alone (possibly) faster. compare the GTR to something more in its price range and well...

at the end of the day, i would be stoked to own either car!

Porsche says that they didn't think that it could be that fast as it had similar power to the 911 turbo but weighed more, then said
"It's a very consistent car. But this car is about 20 kilos heavier than the Turbo . . ."

going by this logic a full tank versus an almost empty tank would cost you about 1min 40sec around the ring presuming an 80 litre difference (100litre tank??) That seems a bit out there.

"Hey bro show that honda driver how a real car goes"

"Nah I just did the groceries, filled her up and with you in here it has havled my performance, you fat bastard"

Jeez, its a track. Who really cares which is faster around a circuit? Most people are going to buy them to say "look at me" anyway.

Rather have the Porsche anyway
