Postby bluemaumau » Sat Oct 18, 2008 1:56 pm

well with my new radiator setup ive had to get rid of the factory catch, much to my disgust.

so i need to get some bonnet pins

ive done a search and there isnt much on brands/places to mount etc

so what have people done and what brands have they used.

and if you have any for sale let me know

TIA

You can get some with keylocks on them for a bit more peace of mind.

Not sure where to get them

Aerocatch do ones with keylocks, and without keylock.
Think you can get them through race brakes for just over $200

I had keylock solex ones, what a pain in the arse. You cant open the bonnet fast and if you want to open while the car is on you have to turn the car off as the key will most likely be on ur key ring.
Lining them up can be interesting as it nearly has to be perfect or they wont. Also its only a little bit of steel holding the bonnet from flying off. Didnt look safe to me, normal bonnet pins are way better, easy to install and you can just buy 2x masterlock padlocks for $12 at sueprcheap for added security if your parking somewhere.

The aero catch lock ones are good, but you have to cut a massive hole in your bonnet and also quite time consuming to fit.

Normal pins ftw! I got mine from Alert Motorsport in Mt Wellington for $45.
Watch out for the crap ones on trademe, I got some and they didnt work properly, kept jamming up etc.

Seen them a few times and Dad has put them on his GT40,

but after seeing them in action at the track, would never put them on a race car.

They were on an altezza in the Puke 6hr
and the car had a small shunt in the front,
the catch's are pushed closed by the mechanism, but released by spring pressure,
so the smallest twin in the bonnet and they wont release.
Took them almost 5 mins in the pits just to get the bonnet open.

On my bonnet there were 2 rubber stoppers that screw in on either side at the front, and rest on the radiator support panel. I removed these and put the catches in their place. I'll be back with a picture in a couple of minutes.
