Car regulations are the only thing that makes australia less appealing that NZ... they're such nazi's.

Having recently baby sat my under 3 month old niece, and killed a neighbour for having a noisey car...

I think this is fantastic, noisey cars have no place anywhere, if they are under the legal regulations, fine, otherwise the noisey bastards should be fined, and then car cubed if it happens again.

I think its a good idea. Much better to have a machine determine the noise level of a car than an officer in a bad mood.

I wonder about the accuracy and allowance for tollerence due to conditions.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

This is a great idea, using a drive by noise level instead of a stick it up the exhaust approach. This means that if you have a reasonably noisy car and are driving nice and quiet through the suburbs you should be fine, but if you hose clamped a rice cannon to the standard exhaust of your integra and drive every where at 7000rpm to show what a large penis you have then you will get a ticket (which should then be put in the local paper with a I.D photo and an address so we can hunt you down and beat you with your own exhaust)

The loundness of the exhausts is not the problem (within reason of course) it is the dickheads who have to give it full throttle around a corner at 11pm that is the problem.

Whoa easy there hitler..cubing a car for a noisey exhaust is a bit much dont you think :D

I agree loud exhausts are a real pain, I lived on a very busy roundabout for a year and after a while you could tell the make and model of the car, and the age of the driver just by the sound...

Funny how the oldest, shittest car is always the loudest...You reckon the dude would be trying to hide the fact he's driving an automatic Daewoo Lanos with a bigbore...

At least this should be much more accurate than a subjective test :D

yeah i think it could be a good idea as well but i cant see how its only gonna pick up each car without one going another way or some other external noise

However ifs its gonna work on the 7ooorpm fart cannon that drives around in the middle of the night with their foot up it, im all for it because after all its this kind of attitude thats got us all in this f****king predicament..

ok, I admit that cubing people car for a loud exhaust is probably a bit harsh... maybe make it a three strike thing. :)

How do they know where noise is..
How accurate etc?
There might be a Mini in view, yet could be a 323 wankport or r32 with stupidly loud gate just infront or around corner..

Being a geek, I was gonna mention that, but thought I'd leave it.

Can't they do it directionally, as in, put a cone on the microphone, and if you aimed it accuratly enough, you should be able to say it came from a particular car... kinda like how a spot light works only in reverse.

I think this measure is over the top.

Some modified cars should be noisy. To not be noisy would mean the exhaust would have to be restricted which is no fun at all.

Those gay az cars with no mufflers or just 5" inch tips for no reason is stupid.

the 95 decibel limit is fine here in new zealand i reckon, i think it's lower in aus.

Not at all, I bet I can build you a 3" exhaust for your MR2 that'd flow enough for well over 200kw yet be comfortably under 95db. It all comes down to decent mufflers and thick walled piping.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Mine is 84db constant rpm and peaks at ~88db if it pops when the revs drop at the end of the test and has done nearer to 300 than 200kw showing no sign its running out of flow. There is no need for excessively loud exhausts, I often find quieter ones often have the sweeter note - the louder ones are just noise.

I agree with the noisy old shitters causing all the trouble issue.. Here in Palmy there is a penis down the end of my cul de sac with a shitbox red KE70. He makes himself look like a homo as he has big 17in mags on the back and standard 13in steelieson the front(who does that???) but the problem is the bog stock 4k engine with the standard pea shooter exhaust with no mufflers except this queer boy racer 6" shiny muffler on the back. It sounds like crap especially as half the time the thing is on 3 cylinders with the choke out. Pricks like that are the people we all have to thank for these laws coming in. AND if you are on this group: You are a wanker.
