But we weren’t at all fazed about Kimi [Raikkonen, of Ferrari]. We weren’t racing Kimi, we were basically racing Fernando.

If that doesnt suggest that Hamilton was the favoured driver, I dont kn0ow what is.

:? that doesnt prove a thing....
hamilton may have been the favourite of some individuals in the mclaren team, but i doubt very much that any of them would do anything to hurt alonsos races. thats just dumb.

those of you claiming hamilton isnt great coz he has the best car... and schumi is the greatest... seems to me the ferrari was the best car a lot of the time....
including when schumi was driving, in fact often in the mid schumi era the ferrari was the best car by far, and he always had team mates who were definite number twos.... so maybe he wasnt so great after all? best car by far, and subservient team mates....

why would a team like mclaren have a number one and a number two?
it makes no sense at all, they have the resources to run two cars at the same level, so why handicap yourself to one driver? what you do is field two of the best drivers you can, when one is in a clearly better position than the other, the other drivers duty to the team (they are after all working FOR the team) is to do whats best for the team.

and further back theres suggestions glock caned it in favour of hamilton, if you watch the replays you can see he's barely able to keep the car on the track, so i dont thik he was thinking "i must let hamilton through"
besides, he wouldn thave had any idea what was happening on that side of things

and finally on the subject of the older eras... my fav old time driver? jackie stewart.
or what about lauda? my first memorys of F1 were the lauda/prost mclaren years. not in a mclaren? go home....

I seem to remeber Suchmi making a rather unpressive Jordan do amazing thing's before he was quickly picked up by the still reativily unknown Bennetton team, whom he then won 2 world championships with, He then Join a very uncompetitive Ferrari team, who he help to turn around and Won 5 world championships with.

If I had seen Lewis Hamilton join a lesser team who he had then helped become great id be impressed, but Im not

As said above no point arguing as obvously there some McLaren fans on this site who are more one eyed than Canterbury Supporters

IMO Ron Dennis is a cock smoker

There now, isn't that a better way to get your point across might even stop people thinking you're what you claim Ron Dennis is

Lol, they're nowhere near as one eyed as some I've come across on Ferrari Forums ;)

FWIW I'm a McLaren Fan, also a Ferrari Fan (even supported them in the lean years),and a Toyota Fan at some times, but above all I'm an F1 fan. Even though it's not much more than a media circus these days, the races are often boring processions, and without paying vast sums of money the fans no longer get a chance to see the cars up close, it still has an allure which is hard to match in any other form of motorsport.

The real question I have about Schumacher (which will never be answered) is; How many championships would he have won without Ross Brawn and a #2 driver to gift him points???

Even in the lean years Ferrari we usually fast and capable of winning races, but they lacked the reliability until Brawn made the decision (in late 1998?) that no parts would be put on the car until they had been full tested. The rest is history ;)

Perhaps you miss the point of debate...It's not about changing the opposition's viewpoint, it's about putting your point across to those that are undecided. Good debate is when you can achieve this in a civilised manner, without resorting to name calling ;)

Intresting Point about Ross Brawn, but after seeing the disaster of a year that Honda have had makes me wonder if he was really such a big factor in the Suchmi success

Next year will paint a clearer picture of his influence on the team

I am from Canterbury so I think that it does also influence in some of my one eyed comments at times, I am also a F1 fan above all as it is still the pinacal of motorsport even though in recenet years the racing has become boring.

I am very much looking forward to next year and hope that next yea that there is much closer racing with more passing to find out which drivers are the real deal :)

I got my money on BMW being a front runner, but we won't know until after the first race plus then with all the rule changes will be intresting to see all the differnt cars and how the differnt teams have there take on the ruless.

I kind hope someone pulls a totally radical cat out of the bag, like Colin Chapman did the with Lotus JPS cars of the late 1970tys

I think you may well find that Brawn's decision this year to not develop the 2008 car (which was a complete dog) at all and concentrate on the 2009 car was probably the right one. It didn't make Honda look good this year but the should at least be up with mid field runners next year (provided they got it right).

KERS will throw a joker into the pack for sure, and BMW appear to be further along the development path than the other top running teams that had to concentrate on winng this years championship. However I wouldn't be suprised if it's the same McLaren-Ferrari battle next year, with maybe the middle field getting a bit closer.

Given the (proposed?) rules about having to publish details of any new technology at the end of the year, so you only get one year's advantage may well stiffle any radical innovation.

Schumacher is one of the greats fullstop what he has done in the sport on and off the track is unsurpassed and is debateable if it will ever be matched easily the best driver of his time good over along period and thats the key for me great drivers are not good over a short period its there body of work consistency and longevity at the top level and the results to back it up now Schumacher is all of the above and if people here are to short sited to not see this than your over.I would be comfotable enough to mention Schumacher's name right up there with all of the past and future greats off F1 no question...... 8)
