My Bmw 540i:

Lets see a blue motion do that. And people say a V8 is uneconomical. :P

For you fun police out there. I pulled over to take a photo of it. Otherwise it could have been at 90+km/l :D

If I were driving it, I'd probably have trouble getting it over 20km/L
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Considering my Daihatsu Mira did 20km/l

I'd be bloody amazed if you could get a genuine 20km/l out of a V8 BMW. I think you might have got your kms and your l's around the wrong way, or be thinking of l per km.

I've had it at 1.3KM/l :P

It usually sits around 8.8KM/l after a weeks driving under my normal driving conditions. Long distance I can easily pull 10.0KM/l+ even with the A/C on and I sit at about 115-120KM/H on the speedo. It's not speeding as I've driven past heaps of police and I've never had anything except for when I did 130KM/H past one and it flashed it's lights.

When you consider that it's twice as economic as the blue motion (1.4L Diesel) which claims 26.3 KM/L according to rightcar.govt.nz it's pretty good.

That's a genuine reading from the BMW trip computer. I have to admit that it's not a consistent reading. But it is genuine.

Yah, well obviously when I say genuine, I mean you actually get that out of a tank of gas. Rather than "you've photoshopped it!!!" or suchlike :D

I take it that your speedo is reading higher than true speed then? If so then the consumption shown on that display is out too

I think it has more to do with the fact that it's a fairly recent model 5 series BMW and the police don't believe that a boy racer/youn'un is gonna be driving it so they just leave me be. I've had the odd finger waved at me (no jokes). Also if I had the M Sport version my readings would be even more out as the wheels are actually smaller than the standard version. ( I think from memory anyway may have confused myself)

So according to the reading and assuming your tank is at least 80L you'll get 4160Km to a tank...sure.

What I said was just my interpretation of why I wasn't pulled over. Maybe I was lucky. I'm just saying what has happened. And I KNOW that for those speeds I would have been pulled over in any of my other previous cars. I was pulled over for 111KM/h in the Corona.

But that's completely off topic and not really something I wanna get into. AS i could write books on how I feel about the subject.

It's probably about time that I let the cat outta the bag and explain what happened.

I was driving along, reset the fuel gauge. Got an insanely high reading. Decided it was a perfect troll for people who are fuel economy paranoid. Took photo.

As I said I can get reasonable fuel economy but as I've been saying about this car. If I wanted fuel economy I wouldn't have paid what I did. I'd have bought a shitter Charade for like 3K and kept the difference. I didn't so I'm certainly not worried about fuel. Especially since when I got to the pump this morning I found 95 to be at 166.9 :) The price has been dropping since I bought my V8. So everyone else buy V8's and watch the petrol price drop. :D
