4age Valve Springs

Postby shazeal » Fri Dec 05, 2008 11:56 am

Hiya,

I have been to every tool shop I can think of and had no luck finding a spring compressor that actually fits the 4age head. A helpful Repco employee told me the style of compressor I need is "out of fashion".

The closest thing Ive found is a Honda motorbike compressor but the top fitting was too big. Am I better just to rig something up to do this? I saw some threads mentioning using some tubes or something, but It didnt really make much sence to me as to how it all worked.

Or can someone tell me where I might be able to get the right tool? I have the springs off at the moment, socket + hammer did the job but I need to get it back together asap.

Thanks.

There is a tool which is hand held like a bicycle handle and has this little mechanisim inside.
You just dummy assemble the spring and retainer with the collets sitting in there, put something under the valve so it wont drop back down, and press this tool over the top of the retainer and collets which will be pressed into the valve stem. Then magic its all on.

That thing looks awsome, Im guessing theyre pretty steep price wise as Ive never seen one in any of the tool shops I frequent.

I found some really bad pitting in the valve seats after removing some scoring in the 2 cylinders that lost compression. Probably bits of the head gasket so Ill just get the engineering shop to re-assemble it all :/

Thanks for the replies though :)

Yeah but from where? I tried to get one of them thru my tool suppliers but had no luck.

I bought a double action valve spring compressor, and then had an end made for it which fits the small 20V heads.

Works a treat and I think all up owes me $125?
but since I have done about 5 heads now has paid for itself.
