16psi is fine. i wouldn't consider that a big deal.

to replace a clutch on these is a bit of a nightmare though. if you're paying someone to do it it would probly cost around $1500. also the km's are getting up there a bit, and green isnt a highly desirable colour.

the defi gear is a nice plus though, and its got half decent audio.

i would have thought ~5.5 would be about right considering the clutch needs replacement. probly up to 7k if that wasnt an issue.

i think 4k is taking the piss when you consider what else you could (or can't) buy for the same coin.

Definitely should get more than $4k for it. Plus it's a '97.

considering people are trying to get $7K on here for 95-97 AE111's! Not a bad price I don't think

There are always going to be jews that will lowball.

Its all about how much of a rush you are into sell. Keep your price firm if thats what you want. Its a nice looking car so don't regret giving it away in the future.

I advertised my mr2 for months at $7500. Got a few bites but mostly people wanting it all and paying nothing. Ended up parting it out, taking the car back to stock and making $500 more than my asking price by selling off all the bits.

yeah that's full on lowball. green is not the best selling color but hay,
theres a clean white one im looking at with some mods similar to yours for 6999 + orc at a car yard, with no gauges or rear wing. and no power fc. slightly lower k's. i'd say your cars in the 6k range 7 if the clutch is fixed,

TBH I like the green better than the white, seriously give it a good wash and polish (just use turtle wax ice or something) take some decent photos, maybe you know someone with a DSLR camera? and you should be sweet, for 7k+. Only issue is the clutch, I don't know too much about them on these/(4wd)

mate that's a really nice car, don't take too much crap from anyone. mileage isn't nearly as important as how well its been looked after, especially for a toyota. mine is a 96 with 175kms on it and i can tell you its in massively better condition than it was when i bought it at 135kms. i know of a number of people in the uk with st205's at over 300kms on the original internals.

the power fc alone makes it a really attractive buy- they don't make st205 pfcs anymore. plus its got extensive mods and its one of the last ones made. the clutch is an issue though- it either needs a specialist mechanic (of whom they are almost none) or a lot of labour by a normal one. Mine was $1700 at the local midas. so yeah you do have to factor that in, but please make sure it goes to someone who is going to take care of it, not a shark!

Yeah 7K is good, 4K is a joke, Like the same Gen MR2 the turbo fitted will take 16PSI no problems, wouldnt go anymore without better intercooling though.

Not sure where the $1500 for a clutch is going. I thought MR2s were harder to work on.

I paid $150 delivered on eBay for my Exedy HD Clutch (rated 30% more than stock). and $550 to fit (included new rear main seal and machined flywheel).

out of comparison an evo4 cost about $70k when new back in 96, and an st205 was $110...

they dropped the price down to $95 mid 1996. one of the reasons why there are so few around.

They're not. Mr2's are easy to work on, plenty of space in engine bay, nothing other than engine stuff in there, the only annoying thing is having to lean over stuff to work on them (don't get the sore back you get from front engined cars though).

GT-Fours are pricks to work on, gets easier with practice but still sucks. Clutch replacement is fastest done on these by dropping the engine and gearbox out and then separating them - even then, I've heard of people struggling for hours to get the gearbox off or back on to the engine. Once again, there's a knack to it and once you've done it a few times it's not too hard, but how many mechanics have changed lots of gt-four clutches?

Not really STI's and EVO's seem to go for $15k+ and prefacelift S14's $9k+.
Not to mention they all suck.

Have a look at my modified s14 pfl for $8500 - cars are getting cheap!!

"and they all suck" - haha - coming from a 300zx owner :D

And yea - doing a clutch on a gt4 is a MAJOR - you'd want to take it to a good shop who are going to do a nice job, which will make it a big spend to get right.

$4k seems a bit cheap, but then I would have said a 8k start was a little optimistic - depends on how quickly you need to sell it

Lowball

Postby ST205 GT4 NZ New Group A » Wed Dec 17, 2008 8:40 pm

Dude with those mods 7+ easy, don't let him low ball you ( tell him to xxxx xx) ,

Worst case break the aftermarket parts off it and take it back to standard.

Westec motors in Westec place auckland west Auckland for the clutch they do them all the time- easy get a quote from them for it.

Here is my opinion (very biased).
All people think that these are slow and heavy, sadly because ST185 is a dog of a thing and ST165 is too underpowered. ST205 is nothing like these (ST165 comes close in balance given enough power).
I drive ST205 every where, every day, it is very balanced (once you get used to superstrut's unusual feedback). It has got enough power for mountain passes, very forgiving, and power is very smooth. I have driven EVOs, STI's, WRXs, etc EVOs feel like bucket of bolts, WRX are drivers cars, but I don't like that they are boxers and all the problems that come with skinny cranks.... Try buying a GSR for those money, it will be complete piece of shit (slow, with pointless 4WD system that make it feel like FWD).
A lot of people don't know what ST205s really are. They are on par with EVOs in performance, reliable (if you look after oil and water). They also have very strong gearboxes. The only down sides I find is that you probably will need to replace SS joints every 150k (not a biggie, done mine when I imported, preempitvely), and boot is too small (oh and every wanker in GSR will try to race you).

You will not be able to import one. I have imported mine just before they were banned. I paid ~10k (landed and complied, in Japan it was about 6.8k in converted from yen at that time) for 1998, White, with 108k on it, straight cost (perk of working for car importer), oh it was grade 4.

They are a lot rarer than STI's (that sell for a lot more, most of them have slappy pistons, and stuffed gearboxes).

For me it was huge improvement over AE101. It sucks that it consumes 2-4Litres more per 100Km, but it is worth it.

I would say, fix the clutch and sell it for $8k-9k.

The car market is up to $&#$% all. $8k is really getting to top dollar for a car with 200k and a stuffed clutch. I simply cant see how it is worth that much. There has been the odd tidy Gen 4 MR2 Turbo with lower km's go for less than 8k on trade me. From a personal perspective I would pay more if the car was bog stock also. I see things like 16psi/mushroom filter/BOV and think its been a boys car and has probably been driven as such. Doesn't matter if you nanna'd the thing its whole life. Its a buyers perspective that matters. Personally think 5-6 max would be fair price, from a person un knowledgeable on Celica's/ uninterested in them.
