Has anyone rebuilt a W5X box before?

Postby cat007 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:38 am

I put mine all together after replacing all bung bearings - but I have a circlip/snap ring left over!!!!

And I cant for the life of me remember where it went

Its not like any of the other snap rings where the tips are pointy. This one looks like this:

Image

Bit of a long shot - but does anyone have any suggestions or idea's where this might go?

Oh yeah - and as you can see there is a wear mark on the outside of one side, and on the other side, the wear mark is on the inside......Not sure if that means anything.....

Well that's the strange thing - I don't think it is

33103G (next to speedo drive gear - right hand side in the middle of that drawing - looks like it could be it - but that just doesnt make sense - but in real life that bearing doesn't have a circlip slot

I've gone over that drawing - and the others - and I just cant figure it out.

Everything's in place and "tight"

I just don't see where it could have gone.

nah its not as big as that.

on the front of the gearbox - there's a BIG bearing for the main input shaft, then there's a smaller one under it - it fits around the smaller one - but its too "thin" - and I've already got one for that smaller one......

I suggest you pull the box apart and start again.
As this part is left over so it defiantly goes in there somewhere

Please refer to the following link, rule 57

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... man%20code

"57. You have not made any mistake if you find that there are extra pieces after reassembling or assembling an object. In fact, you have just found a way to make that object more efficient. "

You will be alright just don't worry about it, the 1ggte doesn't make enough torque for it to be a problem  haha

Certainly looks like its for one of the big bearings, and if there's one already there then your missing one from some ware else

Put gearbox back together and put it in the car

Went for a test drive just now - seems ok - but wont go into 3rd from 2nd sometimes......

I'll take it for a few more easy drives just to let everything settle

theres a "shim" type circlip that sits between the 3rd gear syncro hub assy and the shoulder it sits against. this reduces end float in the 3rd gear assy.
