Postby LEV_101 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:57 pm

Hi to all,

having a debate about interior space + comfortable seats ( front and rear ) .

we are comparing the 1992 levin ae101 vs 1998 altezza sxe10.

please state your reasons of why you choose each car over each car.

thank you to all

merry christmas

The altezza is a larger car, and more spacious. It has 4 doors, a higher roof line, and good leg room. There is more space in the front also due to the dash design for both passenger and driver.

The AE101 would win out between the two cars for the front seats only, as they have better bolsters and more 'bucket' to them than the altezza front seats.

For everything else related to comfort, space and ability to carry passengers, the altezza wins out.

If you have a mrs do her in both cars. The one that affords more play room is the goer.

Whilst a sound method of elimination when written on paper, this task becomes irrelevant in the face of the "AE101 owners clause" which states that all 101 owners are well known for thier same-gender butt-banditry  .

101 = Slow and boring.

Altezza = Not as slow, but less boring.

101 = Cheaper to maintain and get parts for.

Altezza = Not as cheap to maintain and get parts for.

But to answer the questions you actually asked about, I'd say the Altezza would win hands down. Easier access to rear seats, people in the rear aren't cramped up in there.
After being in the back of a 101, you'll feel like you could play a game of tennis in a SXE10
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

consider any altezza is also at least 5 years newer too.

seems a pointless comparision to me.

Partswise they're much of a muchness when it comes to maintenance. 2ndhand parts are much more readily available for AE101's of course, being at best 5 years older.
My AE101 isnt slow, nor boring ;)

I've owned both cars & they're so completely different any comparison is kinda pointless IMO.
One's FR the others FF, there a big price & age difference. Ones a compact sports coupe the others a sports sedan. The list goes on...

But to basically sum them up...The Levin is faster of the mark but the Altezza handles better & is more fun in the wet :D

If you're looking to buy I'd go with an Altezza RS200-Z

well my mate was kind enough to lend me his 6speed beams altezza over xmas, it is one of the nicest i've seen. now i've been in a few ae101's, and an ae111.

altezza has better handling, more comfortable ride, lsd, 6 speed, waay better stereo std, creature comforts you can't compare, altezza wins, and the stopping power is amazing, i would almost compare it to the likes of a new sti or evo when slamming on the brakes. all the airbags, more boot space,

i'd go for the altezza personally.

Imagine an Altezza with a built motor and a turbo which runs 20psi and comes on full boost at 4500rpm - be that would be a bit short of slow and boring too!! :D

From my experiences driving both an AE101 is without a doubt the most fun car out of the pair - being more nimble, quicker (the ones I have driven) and generally more hoonable. The Altezza is however a much nicer car with more space.

as pointed out by leon, bang for buck you cant go past ae101!

but the tezz is defintely a classier car. and the top spec vehicles are one of the best cars i've driven in terms of the ride comfort / handling compromise - they are fantastic dailys and still a bit of fun with the foot down.

Looked at an altezza, but decided if you're going to spend the coin may as well get a newer 2zz 'rolla. :)

only thing with the altezza, well the one i'm driving, is if your giving it to it, the back is a little twitchy and could catch you out if your not a good driver, traction control is for pussy's

ie, a diplomatic way of saying "If you completely fail at the driving". They hardly have enough torque to pull the skin off a rice pudding.

I find the back of the car rather unsettled to be honest, when the back lets go, it does so rather rapidly, a few rwd cars i've driven seem to gradually let go.

maybe it's just be, i'm sure some decent suspension/swaybars would help that though
