As for exhaust. There definitely are gains to be had by putting a new one on. A nice 2 1/4 inch system will see gains, don't go to 2 1/2 inch as it's too big. As for headers, the factory ones are good, but you can get better. Keep and eye out for some FGK ones, as they are proven performers. Otherwise keep the factory ones with new 2-1 section and remove the squished pipe section that goes over the crossmember.

Can I ask what gains over the stock engine you got by doing all that work? :)

Sorry, that's not my car. It's just a picture I've collected from the web.

I'll be doing something similar to me car onced the engine has gone in.
I've got the same headers and will be doing a similar breather arrangement.

That's pretty good. Anything over 100kw for a Blacktop is doing well.

That seems like a very good price for TEIN stuff.

Man this is difficult, tried to find some reviews or comments on the TIEN springs and all I've come across are not so good comments.

From one site:

Many people who buy Tein springs end up buying springs again.
The drop will kill struts quickly on anything but glass smooth roads.
The ride will kill your ass on anything but glass smooth roads.
They are not really, a performance spring, they are an 'appearance' spring

:?
Not what I'm really after.

I don't go on the track and all my driving will be on the road.
I guess I’ll see what some of the main mag shops have to say as well.

But the general census is TIEN is best?

I don't know where you found those reviews, but thats the biggest load of rubbbish i ever heard.

I would recommend Tein springs to anyone. Kings/Jamex/Dobi are not even comparable, they are junk.

Tein S tech are designed to work well with stock shock absorbers.
Also worth considering is that the Tein springs are specifically designed for the wagon. They have a completly different set for the levin/trueno coupes.

Kings/jamex etc offer one option for entire AE111 chassis, and as a result the spring rates are not suited for the extra load carrying of the wagon

Buy them, you will not regret it

yeah what he said...

the p/n i quoted earlier is for the wagons

sounds like review was written by some one whos never even seen a TEIN spring.

most brands will do a 30mm or a 50mm spring regardless of weather or not that drop is suited to the car....
if you look in the TEIN catalouge you will see that different cars have differing drops, thats coz TEIN in their testing find some cars cant be lowered as much as others without modification. TEIN actually test their springs on the actual model before they sell them.... not many companys do that

TEIN are good, so don't worry about those reviews.

Having said that, I have used Jamex in my AW11 MR2 and a FXGT and have no complaints at all. My MR2 handled very well and was still a nice ride as well, due ot the springs being progressive. I did put KYB shocks in when I installed the springs. I don't see any point using old worn out shocks with new springs (this was with 80s model cars)

I have had King springs in an FXGT as well and I found them to be $hit.

I've got some TRD Coilovers for my AE101 Turbo now and some TEIN coilovers to go into my AE92 FXGT, so I'm glad I found those deals. Stoked!

So the comment about killing the struts is rubbish?

Well if they are the best ill grab them, just hope it’s not too stiff of a ride.
I'll check out if he has any other options as well.

The ones on trademe have a 55m drop and 35m in the back - this wouldn't bring my ride height lower than the 100mm over all?

edit: Just got off my ass and measured the height, currently 170mm front & 165 back - from the ground.

The one's for sale on Trademe are the Soft version, tein offers a soft & medium version with different spring rates.

I will be purchasing those exact springs for my wagon in the new year, because it is my partners car now, and she finds the current RSR springs a bit too firm

Scratch that - rear shocks feel stuffed after a trip up north.
Someone was recommending KYB Shocks as a good quality what do you guys recommend?

i would fit those or genuine ones, which ever you can get the best price on. the KYBs in nz are standard replacments.

OK Mags have been on the car for a while now and I ended up buying a good set of Dunlops nearly six months ago now.

I've got the cash to tamper a little more with the car.
I'd like to get the TEIN springs suggested.

Question about strut braces - do you really need expensive ones or if there made to fit it should be good enough?

Would anyone like to point me somewhere where they bought front and rear braces?

Personally I found 41s prices a tad steep compared so some other places - suggestions welcome though :)

Unfortunately some guy nose to tailed me coming home, fortunately I have full insurance so the cars going into the shop next week and I'll be forking out for a general tidy up on the exterior.

Later I'll ad some pic's to show the fruit :P

No factory strut brace installed?

Bang for buck its probably not THAT worthwhile changing the front brace (if you have a factory one).

If you want to improve handing perhaps look into swaybar upgrades. Whiteline doe good products. Autoline (I think) sell em.

Get those springs in first though and then see if you want better handling. I find my car handles fine with KYBs and good lowering springs. You may be happy enough too so wait till you have tried the car with new springs in first before splashing out.
