chosing a ma70 supra

My GA70 was a mean daily.
Didn't use too much gas, did mean o's, fairly comfortable and only cost $500.

Didn't spend much on it either!

Thats not a jza70 its just a old 1ggte with a 1jz in it, the first jza70 came out in 1990 till 1993.

Trust me, things you want in a daily driver (reliability, economical, comfortable to drive, being able to park places and not worry about it getting dented/scratched/stolen etc)... none of these things come with a supra.

True. Well almost. Reliability can be found, just rarely (the rest sure rings true of my car ). Got mine this Wednesday gone for $8k from Chch in immaculate condition. It's completely factory and except for a little wear on the paint on a couple of the sharper edges around the doors, you can't tell it's 19 years old.

Whatever you do, don't pay this much for this supra

I sold it to this guy for $1800 ish which was I think a fair price. He's put an intercooler on there and replaced the cut front bumper it had.... Oh and I've watched it go from $7k to $6k now to $5.5k lol



Now as to answer one of your original questions about the MA70. Basically if it's a 7M engine (and a quick google search gives you pretty fantastic info including a buying guide I recall reading somewhere) then they're prone to BHGs (silly production line didn't tighten the head bolts enough). Mostly a matter of when not if. So, if they've got receipts showing all repair work done for this then great! If they've got proof they've retorqued the head... well, it's better than nothing. If there's no proof then it's likely going to need some work at some point.

Other than that, later models seem to be more rust proof (after 89) and the rare hatch can leak a bit (worn seal around rear wiper blade, sometimes through rare light covers) so double check in the spare tyre well.

Lastly, if you want to know more info as to why not to get my old car... I've got a story I discovered about that 138k on the odo...

im looking at a 92 JZA70 1jzgte 144ks on the clock its a areo top automatic looks really tidy and the price is right aswell milage looks legit i can see whats going to happen the 85 might stay the daily driver for a while longer lol dutton whats the story with that car

Every 2 km you drive, the trip meter clicks up 1. The odo seems to click up at the same speed, except every now and then a digit will decide to reset itself. Eg going from 138k to 139k, the 8 starts revolving into the 9, and it suddenly clicks and drops back to 8 for another thousand km.
