Registration mistake = fine

Postby Dutton » Wed Jan 14, 2009 7:37 pm

So, I changed my plates to the personal ones maybe a week ago, but when I put the registration in the window pocket, I was rushed/whatever and accidentally put it behind the old one...

So today I find a $200 fine on the car on my way to work.

Going to write in and try and get off it. Don't really fancy my chances to be honest. It's $&#$% me off something cronic right now tho.

usually if you get one of those fines you can get off them, as long as you prove its registered. Yours is, so i think you should be fine. Haha, no pun intended

So it IS registered, but just not showing the correct label?

I'd be very suprised if you could not get off that by simply explaining the situation :? Have you even contacted anyone before packing a sad on here?

Well
a) I wanted to pack a sad for being a dumb arse  and
b) I'm on night shift, just got to work at 7 and infringement services close at 5. I called them and their automated message said I have to write in to dispute it. I've never had a fine before so I don't know how these work

Just call back in business hours and explain how stupid the person issuing the fine was to not do any background check on the cars rego which should be done in future to save your hassle and time as you're a busy person

Or send in the infringement along with a photo copy of your rego ticket which has the date/time it was printed.

Lol yep - should remove the need for a matching window sticker altogether and make those parking wardens carry around PDAs to check up for themselves if it's current.

The stupid thing is, it's been parked in a residents car park for all this time and only now has there been any checking that it has a residents permit... which didn't match the displayed rego dammit.

I'll try the phone call just in case, but expect to need to do the photocopy thing. Hope you're all not giving me false hope here

Oh and the people at VTNZ when I changed the rego didn't actually say I had to display it in the window - I only remembered to shove it in there from the last time I'd changed plates. Maybe I'll mention that too lol.

hah isnt that like buying wheels, forgetting to do up the wheel nuts and then blaming the people who sold you the wheel for it falling off?

 Only if they sold you the wheels and didn't tell you that once you put them on and take it off the jack, that you're supposed to tighten the nuts more than just hand tight

The only problem you may encounter is the infringement notice will be for 'non display of current reg', not whether you have one or not :(

yeah i was just going to say, the ticket wont be for not having rego it will be for not correcly displaying it.. So the fine is for what its for, That rego wasnt displayed as been current.. Not that the car had rego..

Yeah don't like your chances. Girlfriends brother had his off (but on his dash) because the windscreen was leaking on it, and he didn't get off even though I thought it was a pretty valid excuse

I stand corrected then. Thats the dumbest reason for a fine i've ever heard of. Must be yet more revenue collecting.

Would it make you feel better if I told you that I made a hole in my aluminium radiator with one of my intercooler pipes, and it's proving extremely difficult to fix, so I have to catch the bus to work tomorrow instead of 1JZ-GTE goodness?

Im quite glad i never got a ticket like that to be honest

When all my friends got together and bought me my plate for christmas they knew i would want them straight away so they sent away the forms and got the plates made, little did they know that once the plates were made that the car is automatically transferred to them and i was driving round for a couple of weeks with dereg'd plates on my car before i got given the new ones on christmas day

Would have been interesting to explain to a cop since i didnt know anything about it

But yea thats a rather anoying thing to get a ticket for, all the more reason to take the old rego ticket out when you get a new one i guess
