i've got off a wrong registration parking ticket when my rego ticket fell out of the slide pocket.

I just went into the welly city council and explained the situation. They checked the registration on the car and asked me to fill out a form explaining the reasoning why the rego ticket wasn't showing and they accepted the reason and fine was waived.

No point calling them as they will just ask you to write a letter. For legal reasons they need it in writing.

A polite and well written letter will get you off this as the rego was paid at the time of ticketing. Technically they can still ticket you for it not being displayed, but if its paid the will withdraw the ticket.

Got off work at 7am, so killed some time cruising around until they opened.

I went in and explained... er... mostly what happened.

They were really sweet with it actually. They just photocopied the infringement notice, got me to name, address, phone and explain on same page - wasn't even a real letter. I just wacked it out in like 30 seconds. Guy said the investigations team will just look up the rego details in the system and so long as it was registered correctly as at the day of the fine, then they usually let you off.

Surprisingly flexible about it really... No complaints here so far (until they decide to NOT let me off that is  )

It happens all the time and generally they are honest mistakes so they are usually quite good about it.

Its just when you get a snarky little kid who stands mouthing off or being a cock is when you start getting the cold shoulder.

We had the same kinda issue when we went upto Hamilton. We paid online and waited for the rego card to show up, got it, put it on my desk, went up to Hamilton, got a ticket for not having rego, spoke to the warden and he said just write in with photo copy and they'll waive it.

Yeah I always buy mine online, often takes a week to show up but I never worry about it as by rights my car is registered, so I don't see why you could fine you.

The wording of the ticket is usually failing to display current registartion, so if they wanted to be cunty about it they could still get you.

yeah, I buy mine online too, I'm pretty sure when they send you the confirmation e-mail it states that you can be fined for not displaying a current rego so I guess if your getting off something like this your lucky although if they didn't let you off that would be rubbish in this situation

If you buy online and need your rego card urgently you just rock into the post shop say you um lost it and they just print you one for free. done that a few times now, solves the postal delay problem.
