Anyone got info on Caldina GT-T ???

Postby ihavelift » Tue Jan 20, 2009 4:10 pm

Before I start, you should all be with toyota insurance, they are so bloody good!

Anyways... Ok, so, after a lot of time deliberating and being SURE i was going to get this or get that, I'm back at square 1 with the "hey maybe I'll get a ... "

At the moment it's a caldina gt-t I'm thinking about, got quoted $689.96 premium with $900 excess or $1008.50 premium with $300 excess, so either way a damn good deal.

Anyway, the point of this is what are general opinions on gt-t reliability etc? It's perfect for me - can make it as fast as a evo/sti if i chuck a bit of coin at it and it's perfect for me when i go skiing. What are people's thoughts on reliability etc?

Any and all thoughts are much appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

Do a search. Also make the thread title meaningful.

Typical toyota reliability, but that all comes down to how well its been maintained.

The turbo fitted to GT-T is part of the manifold, as opposed to MR2, Celica Gt which has seperate CT26, or Group-A turbo.

So if youre looking at upgrading then you need to factor in this.

That said intercooler upgrade, boost increase, etc all the usual mods you would do to an MR2 or Celica is going to net you more power over stock.

Not sure its up there in Evo or Sti territory though, depend how much coin you though at it. Might be cheaper to get an STi Wagoin to begin with.

What sort of price range are you looking at ? how much modifcation are you wanting to do ?

The PFL seem to have a habit of cracking exhaust manifolds too.

I did a search (cos I'm bored) most threads that came up say "do a search this has been covered before" , my question is, where are these threads?

I searched:
caldina AND gtt AND mods
and
GT-T AND modifications

I realise I could have tried a few more combos, and one of them did have 4 pages I didn't bother going through.

I just did a search (to show it works)

caldina and reliable *shock*

General info on caldina GTT
viewtopic.php?t=63750

Looking for a caldina GTT - compares it to other similar cars
viewtopic.php?t=56458

What needs servicing @ 100km on a caldina
viewtopic.php?t=66508

If you can't find out all you need from there, i'd consider buying an echo tbh.

the person that started this thread wanted to know about their reliability not mods. please don't hijack the poor fella's thread with your quest to know about modifications that have been covered hundreds of times

dude calm down i'm new to these forums i'm not a mod who spends my whole life on this site and knows where everything is. And the thread is titled appropriately enough for me so if you want a thread with a better title go start one yourself. Don't pick on the little guy just because you have the power to ban me, i really don't care.

Anyway, I have searched but couldn't be f*cked digging through 100+ pages of crap so thought I'd start a new one. I know that the tubo is attached to the manifold, but am not sure what this means in terms of reliability.

Cheers for everybody giving their opinions though, keep 'em coming! :)

My advise,

If you want it to be as fast as an Evo or Sti, buy one of those.

It'll be a lot easier to put roof racks on an Evo then to make a Caldina fast.

How about you respect the rules that were put in place to keep this community going strong. When i first joined up I was a nub (heck, i still am) So when the mods told me something I sucked it up and took it on board. All of your threads that you start end up with you whining about people stating the rules to you. If you dont like it, dont ask us for help, its as simple as that. Moderators are here for a reason, you got pwned so man up and accept it. And the reason people ask for a different title is you will get far more info if you take a bit of time and effort to make your thread easier to read. And if you had bothered to spend 3 seconds searching on google you would have found all the info you needed  here's just one link I found, go find the rest yourself

Yes. I want one :)They look good, go good and seem like fun. I'd be using one for work. The good thing about that is you cant work all day, then thrash it home to relieve the stress :D They seem to be very cheap these days as well, IMO anyway. I havn't seen any in Aus at all in the 2 years i've been here, so NZ is pretty lucky to have so many! Seriously though, you cant really compare them to an Evo. It will be a fast wagon, but at the end of the day, its still a heavy wagon, not a sports car per say.

^^ wasn't really bunging it in the same category as the sti/evo, at the end of the day they're 2 different cars for 2 different purposes. If I wanted an evo i'd get 1, but really can't afford the maintenance issues etc, plus I go skiing around 40-50 days a season while studying full time so there's a lot of commuting between auckland and the mount, and a caldina would be perfect for that. Just really want to get my facts all sorted because i don't want to end up buying a car that i could regret.

Toyota Insurance care, its something like 20% allowance on value increase and performance or the likes.

ihavelift, if you think that post of mine was angry...

I was purely pointing out how the search works and the info you can find quickly by using it. Whether or not I can ban a user has nothing to do with common courtesy you could show by giving your thread a suitable title.

You help us, we help you, its how the forum works 8)

i doubt you can keep up with evo, sti with a 'bit of coin' thrown at them.

i don't own one but from reading a bit about gt-t's they seem to detonate like a mofo over a certain limit. Which is, im sad to say very less than the tolerance an evo or an sti could take.
