1GEU Mark 2 Corona, Questions...

Postby varix » Thu Jan 22, 2009 5:45 pm

I'm looking at purchasing a Manual 1GEU Mark 2 Corona and was just wondering if anyone out there can tell me what they are like on gas? I'm obviously not expecting the best but I don't want it if its going to be a guzzler.

Also it is having overheating problems and I want to get them sorted out before I purchase the car. It doesn't have water in oil or vice versa and has had the water pump checked and thermostat changed yet it still overheats. The heater doesn't work and I was wondering if that could be causing the problem? I couldn't imagine Toyota creating a car that needed a functioning heater to effectively cool the motor though... Could be the radiator, although the current owner has run a hose through it and it seemed okay...

To anyone who is familiar with these motors and cars your input would be appreciated :D

That sucks :( I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad. Even if driven like a nana.

Hell yeah. I had flushed my JZ radiator out with a hose, then got it properly flushed. The guy said the radiator was incredibly clogged 8O, temperature has been sitting much lower now, it was quite bad :)

yea the 1g-e and 1g-eu engines are some of the worst engines toyota made i rekon. having owned 2 and both were as sluggish as each other, hardly any torque and no top end, chew roughly 10-11L/100k driving like a nana. most people ditch them and swap in a 1g-ge or 1ggte. easy swap.

I am looking at a newer 1988 Mark 2 Grande with a 1ggeu. Are these any decent amount better? Still pretty crap on gas or not too bad?

these are bit better on gas and like to rev a hell of a lot more than the crappy 1g-e motor. should be a good daily that mark2.

Those are awesome cars, i used to own one. the NA T-VIS noise of the 1G-GE is very entertaining specially being MAP sensored.

Much better on gas than a 1g-e, they are shocking motors
