4age EP71

Postby mr30%jr » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:08 pm

Hi guys.

purchased an EP71, have plenty of blutops in the shed and maybe even an FF c52.

was wonndering how hard it is to slap it in, is there anything major needed to be done. can you leave all 3 gearbox mounts and just mod the cambelt one.

wirings fuel and plumbing not an issue only things like driveshafts and mounts

I dont think its that easy actually. From what i remember the ep82 needed the right hand chassis in the engine bay modified to get the 4age to fit. So i dont think the ep71 will be much different. I could be wrong though. Stu has a 4agte one on here......but im sure there are a handful of people on here with first hand experience.

there are two ep7X starlets in the project section atm. One has a 4efte and the other a 5efhe turbo. Could be a good place to start looking.
I'm not sure about starlets but in my ee80 corolla I'm 99% sure I just need to remount the cambelt side & use the ae82 subframe. Not sure how you would get the subframe to work on the starlet though.

If it was me I would def be looking at a e series engine.

Have even thought about changing tact with my corolla as well, before its too late.

im not sure why you would want to start with a ee80 when you can get ae82s for so much cheapers with better rear etc and fuel pump

i do know if of the 2 other starlet projects. there not quite down the ally i want to go. maybe 4efte but they are wanting about a grand for one of those.

only because I have an ee80 and a crashed ae82 fxgt already. Easy to swap over tank, suspension, brakes etc. Only need to change the one mount

mesure up your new engine and box, then mesure up the engine bay.. thats the best way to see if it will fit, coul you resess the geairbox under the chassy rail a bit maby?? this will mean needing to fabricate new mounting points for all mounts tho.

Hot 4A in an EP70 would be heaps of fun, before I did the 5efte conversion I had an NA 5EFE in there and the thing got along really well, so 4A would make it fly. I think Ive seen some vids of one or two on youtube actually... if Stus shoehorned in a pretty tricky turbed one no doubt the NA version will be similar/easier, drivers side mount is the one that needs fab IIRC. Another option (although obviously you dont have 'plenty' of them in your shed) would be an NA 5efhe that will bolt straight in, theyre good for 110hp factory and would be interesting if you slapped some quads on the side. That motor would be torquier than the 4a motor and because the ep70 is the lightest of the starlets Id say youd be out pacing factory GT starlets with that setup...
