Am pretty sure that's a myth. Yes they look very similar in construction and appearance, but that's just because they were designed in the same era. 2T-GEU and 18R-G look very similar but are completely different engines.
The 1G-GE and 4A-GE don't share any parts from memory, their bore/strokes are different sized, even the cambelt arrangement and water pump placement is different.
