what modifications are you allowed to do in that class

turbos allowed, only on factory turbo cars, engine mods free, brakes free, suspension has to retain factory points and design, adustable stuff is allowed. exterior has to be factory, spoilers must be factory or period style. wheels and tires any size you like, but must fit within factory guards, no flares allowed. all windows must be glass, no lexan.

I can post up the info that was sent to me by the organiser if you're interested.

Ohhh that sounds like the perfect class for my car! Are things like DOHC head swaps allowed on the original engine?

I don't know, I'll email and ask, I had a possible plan that involved something similar.

Read a little article in Pcar :roll:

that said, three classes within one, like Production Cars. Cars must be pre 1988 of japanese origin and are put into either,
0-1600cc, 1600cc and over and an open class (factory turbocharged and rotary vehicles). Cars must be front or rear driven, no 4wd's and cars must have a MSNZ spec roll cage with approved race seats and harness. I assume approved extinguishers are mandatory too.

This would definitely bring some cool cars out of the woodworks,

But I cant help but think that the rotaries would have the edge though in the open class.

I reckon a series 4 RX7 would have it pretty well stitched up!

I cant think of many other 80s turbo motors that seem to have good power potential that you can still get parts for, or will hold together well, or whatever else. Sure, they used to make mega HP out of FJ20s and the like, but where are you gonna get the parts to do so nowadays?

Kinda odd that they would outlaw flares and lexan. But imagine the number of AE86's battling it out

I would think that an A183A Starion would stand a decent chance in this class esp. if you could find a 12V DASH one.

The 5V-EU was all alloy BTW not iron block. Open deck engine with hemi heads and push rods.

yeah Mike was thinking the likes of Starions, RWD Galant/Eterna turbos, DR30 and R31 RB20DET skylines, S12 and S13 turbo Silvias, MA63 and GA70 Supras would go well in this class.

I think you might mean TA63 celica, Mikeman...

TA64 were the live axle 4TGTE powered rally homologation cars, I doubt there's any left floating around TBH.

It's a rare occasion that you ever even see a TA63/AA63 celica or carina for sale. Stupid rust. :oops:

But yes, a race with all of the above types of cars in it would be epic!

Although I wonder how long until one 'formula' works way better than the others, and certain types of car get weeded out due to being massively unable to be competitive. Would suck to see it turn into just a rotorfest, or starionfest, or... one other particular make of car that ends up being a whole lot better than the others.

Aaahh well, might make some 80s rust buckets worth a few more dollars in a few more years, if this catches on. :lol:

I dont think S13s or RB20DET R31s would be eligable though, were either of those available before 1988?

yes S13 was out in '88, maybe not yet turbo though, definitely not SR20DET anyway. R31 RB20DET was just about finishing in 1988 with the release of the R32 in 1989.

I'd say smart money is on those vehicles for the open class. Personally I think MA70 properly prepped could be a serious contender. Stripped and down to about 1300kg race weight, caged, manual with 2-way lsd, coilovers, swaybars, urethane bushes, t04e, 550cc injectors and lexus afm (or aftermarket ECU), upgraded factory oil cooler and intercooler, 4 pot ls400 front brakes with 324mm MKIV front rotors and rockin the hardout 18x9/18x10 +10 offset wheels
