I still think a FWD one would go OK in this with a good LSD.

was clearly a joke, even I know the ST165 did well in the WRC. However track racing != WRC last time I checked. Toyota no doubt did well due to their extreme reliability, not necessarily their speed :P

I'd still say a well set up st165 would compete very well against an early model VR4

I had a completely standard one too, i even removed a cut up bumper and had a mint standard one installed. they are in my opinion by far the fastest car of the type from what was available at the time. the stock suspension was very soft and whaley, but with a very conservative exhaust setup and 1bar boost my old one was respectfully rapid. much more so than my ST185 ever was at its very best. I would rate it as roughly equivalant in straight line speed to a tiptronic caldina GTT.

moot point though as the class being discussed doesn't allow them

good on ya, nothing worse than a cut up bumper to fit an oversized fridge up front. Mine's an evolution and has the extra vents and what not, not keen to see it cut up at all. Suspension is definitely whale like haha.

A Z31 300ZX Turbo could also be a player in this series.
