Tein HA, need help

Postby normality78 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 7:48 pm

Alright guys, long story short. I obtain a set of Tein HA coilover. Now face some issue.

1. My rear now sit very low. 1 1/2 finger gap. My mech said he had adjust (wind up) to the max as the tread allow.

2. My rear is super bumpy now.

I suspect something is not right on my rear pair coilover as i notice the spring coil is kind of short hence could explain my problem. What you guys think?

what sort of car are these in? 1 1/2 fingers at the guard is more than my car has lol.

Sounds like you need to buy some longer and stiffer springs. You should be able to do this from the likes of autoalign / SAS, just specify the coil width and length desired

Sounds like the wrong spring's being used. I have TEIN's in the MR2 with half height adjusted, the gap between front, rear and top (the whole 180 degree circumference) is the same width (The proper way to make a car look good btw).

I assume the ones on the right hand side is the fronts (with the springs loose), where's the keeper springs for those? Even when compressed they add a good inch or 2 to the overall height.

BTW, you sure you're doing it right? You turn the shock body and the green part (where it bolts to the hub) in opposite directoin, and it raises the car, you know that right? (on my TEIN's they are. But the ones in your pics, the left 2, doesn't look like so....)
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Is it just me or do none of those springs look captive?

Yeah - they are the same as in our Caldina - sort of

They have a squashable spring below the main spring - which allows them to be captive.....

Sorry I forgot to finish what I started

See the two on the left - they have that little spring under the main springs - which hold the spring captive - but the ones on the right, don't have it....hence they're not captive.....

They add about an inch height I would assume....maybe a bit less.....

The 2 left shocks have the retainer springs which look to be squashed up quite a bit.

The 2 right shocks don't even have the retainer springs which you will need for a cert or to pass any warrent.

you'll only need the keepers if the main spring is loose when installed at ride height

by super bumpy are you meaning stiff? in that case you will need a lower rate spring.

and it looks like you need a longer spring to lift the rear up, autolign do them in lengths from 140mm to 450 or so

they also look very worn!
