Postby celica_xr9145 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:41 pm

Hi, lately ive been looking for aftermarket parts for my celica gtr 4ws st183 such as aftermarket ecu, exhaust system, you know, all the performance things. As this is my first car, i dont want them yet but in general, Where to can i buy these sort of parts for my car?
Better to be in NZ but searched and searched but no luck.

I seen a celica on trade me with a shot shift kit on the excact same car as mine, hell knows where he got it from.

Short shift kit possibly just be made. Other bits its likely easiest just to buy online from the likes of trademe or the sponsors of TS. In all honesty, spending anything on making an N/A 3S faster isn't worth the time/money. Best bet would be to put a 3S-GTE in and then you may as well use the factory ECU and loom for that engine. And in that case you may as well just buy a GT4

exhaust system, an exhaust shop. ecu etc in dunedin, best bet is possibly turbo shop.

But to be honest, do not spend money on an old Celica, or an old 3s for that matter. My car has the exact same motor as yours, its really good for getting around town with a little bit of poke when you want to go out and have some fun on the twistys. You will only ever be disapointed by the money you have spend vs preformance gains on said motor.

Look at it this way, by the time you brought an exhaust, ecu + tune, mags etc etc plus the sell price for the car, you are well on your way to a latter model Celica GT-Four etc.

When I had my first car I was in the exact same shoes as you and just wanted to throw money at it for any gain. Now I look back...what a waste. First car is best used to learn some skills and as a bit of a bumper car

Thanks for the replies guys, i never thought about the turbo shop.

Also, i probably wont get these parts, i just wanted to know in general, and with my celica, ill probably put an exhaust on it and that will probably be it because of money, lol

If you don't have much money, why do you want a new exhaust? Old one needing repairs or just want something that sounds different?

An exhaust alone will usually do bugger all for performance on a standard motor, so imo is a waste of money.

Much better things to be wasting money on

What kind of noise?

Done wrong it will sound like ass and no one will like it. You will get taxed accordingly by the police though which is a 'bonus' for everyone else IMO

 I'll stop with the sensible advice now, carry on.

Yeah, there used to be an ST202 around here that had the most horrible sounding exhaust I've ever heard, sounded like a cat being strangled :?
Just put a big shiny stainless can on the back of your exhaust, it ought to satisfy your noise requirements and make you cop bait etc etc

+1 on n/a 3S sounding like crap with a fart cannon exhaust. Save your money and buy a GT4 if your serious about staying with celica's

yea ive been meaning to adjust it. I got the info from a british website which said 170bhp and the 0-60 time but i've been told its around the 150-160 area and nots as fast as ive been told.

100 bucks says they lose power without a proper cold air box with piping etc.

Not a worthy mod imo. K&N filter in the airbox. Sound is good sure, but why lose power to gain it 8)

bit to late for that, already got a pod on it, sounds great.

There is a burgundy celica going round dunedin with a pod and a nice exhaust, same engine aswell and it sounds great, got a real nice tone to it.
I think as soon as i heard it i wanted a new exhaust.

The power is there, i know its only my first car but my dad sometimes drives it and even he said its fast for a 2.0 litre compared to previous cars we had and the pod sound awesome!!!!

Take it from me mate, you will get over this car very quickly. Your first car is always special, but as you get older your tastes will grow. I thought my fxgtv was the be all and end all of cars. Then i found mr2's

Didn't we cover this already in another thread you started about this car? You obviously respect the opinions of people on this forum, since you keep asking for our opinions. So take it from the majority of people on here when we say, save your cash, keep this car tidy, sell up and buy something with a bit more go. Go drive a gt4 or a sw20 and you will want to sell you car right away

I'm sure someone on here will take you for a spin in their mr2/gt4 if you ask nicely/come bearing gifts of alcohol :D

If you really really really want to mod this, why not buy some tasteful rims with some good tires. You can take them off the car when you sell it, so its not money down the drain, and it will make your celica stand out a little more. Although all that red helps it stand out heaps already :P

IMO changing the exhaust will only draw unwanted attention to your car. You noticed that other celica like yours because of the exhaust? Well so will the cops :? The power gains will be minimal, if any.
