That car reminds me of those racing games which dont manage to get licensing for vehicle makes. Instead of having a Toyota Supra there is like a 'Toyotza Supen' and it looks just like a supra except for a differant grill and headlights and tail lights.

Not really, if you dig up old crash tests, average mid 1980's car is far better than this. I would even go as far as saying mid 1970's cars from Japan are far better than this piece of shit.

I certainly hope that if i'm driving down the road in my 1980 Corona, and a car pulls out in front of me and I hit them...... that its one of them. Would be like crashing into a cloud, i'd probably pass right through them and keep on driving

No decently well off Chinese in China will buy those pieces of shits. People know they're shit cars, it's just that there's some families who can't afford a proper car, yet they like a modern looking car, will buy one of those pieces of shits. If you're decently ok with financial status you'll probably be driving a European of some sort, BMW is like the #1 fanboi brand right there, the Chinese don't know jack shit about the technology behind why it's so good, but they just see "B.M.W" and go "Wowow must be bestest ever my precious life will be OK! Must buy BMW!"

If New Zealand gets any of those pieces of shits, people will probably be more fearful while driving, hence creating more traffic jams. You see a lot of lame drivers right now who are so fearful they drive 40kph in a 60 zone and never take that huge gap they have in roundabouts, this is while they're driving a huge 4WD. Imagine what they'll be thinking when they're driving one of these pieces of shits. They probably won't go across the roundabout unless there's not a car within a mile in the other 3 lanes.

also its possible to get normally uncompliable cars on the road under an 'immigrants vehicle' scheme where if you have had it in your name for 12 months or more in the previous country you can drive it here. might see a few popping up like that

though why you would bother bringing something so junky all the way from china is another story

Let me make this really clear.

This car DOES meet standards. I've seen the documents.

It is legitimately road legal. Legit, legal, kosher, above board.

What I stated earlier was that it *barely* met the worst possible results for the crash test, while still passing.

To provide some clarification to the immigrants car status mentioned above (also Special Interest Vehicles not mentioned), that is an exemption *only for frontal impact and emission standards* nothing else. They're vehicles that meet every other standard than frontal impact and emissions.

I wouldn't say this Chinese car is a death trap. It's just a car built very cheaply with the intention of meeting *minimum* safety regulations.

Whereas something like a Volvo will utterly hose the minimum safety levels, because their selling point is how safe they are.

It's just two different corporate philosophies.

The crash test video's are 2007 vids, so the vehicles may well have undergone changes since then. I've been told about how fast they are ramming changes through on these cars to make them meet the impact standard.

that commodore one was performed from the australian government to demonstrate the dangers of doing repairs to the chassis - I recall they were claiming the front and rear end were swapped over from another car.
