Need help on installing headunit

Postby icy » Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:25 am

Hi guys, I just bought a Sony headunit model no. Cdx-gt270, I tried to install it on my 94 Levin ae101 today with the wiring diagram I found on internet.

After I hooked them up, headunit has got no illumination, but it does take/eject cds with the mechanism sounds, the buttons on headunit doesnt respond and does not light up or give any sounds to the speakers.

Not too sure if I have wired them correctly, I thought the headunit should come with a illumination wire but it doesn't, I have hooked up everything from the headunit excepet a blue wire (Antenna) and a blue and white strip wire which I have no idea what its for.

It seems to me the headunit should operate when the battery, ignition and ground wires are connected just that it won't give any sounds.

Am I missing something here? or is it the headunit I bought has some problem?

Here are the wiring diagram I am using to connect my Headunit.

1994 Toyota Corolla Stereo Wiring

Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow
Switched 12V+ Gray
Ground Brown

Left Front (+) Pink
Left Front (-) Purple
Right Front (+) Light Green
Right Front (-) Blue
Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Black

Right Rear (+) Red
Right Rear (-) White

Wiring color code for sony CDX-S2000

BLACK = Negative (-) Earth
RED = 12V Power via Ingition
YELLOW = 12V Power direct from battery
BLUE = Antenna REM
BLUE/WHITE = Amp REM
WHITE = Front left speaker Positive (+)
WHITE/BLACK = Front left speaker Negative (-)
GREY = Front right speaker Positive (+)
GREY/BLACK = Front right speaker Negative (-)
GREEN = Back left speaker Positive (+)
GREEN/BLACK = Back left speaker Negative (-)
PURPLE = Back right speaker Positive (+)
PURPLE/BLACK = Back right speaker Negative (-)

I know some of you might suggest take it to the professional but I really would like to solve this myself and learn something from it :)

Thanks for the help in advance and sorry about my poor English.

headunits do usually earth through the aerial aswell, also make sure you have a switched power on one of those two wires. it sounds like its only getting one.

Thanks for the reply guys, I have found out why its not going, one of the radio fuse has been blown, replaced it with a new one and now everything works!

I am glad it worked out as I have never done this before, I have the car for 2 yrs without a stereo lol.
