Keeping the rubber thing around the speaker cone... thing

Postby Adamal » Sun Mar 01, 2009 9:56 pm

So just bought a working replacement factory sub for the SW, and want to make sure the rubbery thing around the outside of the cone doesn't go brittle and break.
Is there any product which can be used to keep the rubber 'fresh' and stop it from breaking?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

There are a few companies that will rebuild speakers. Twolitre has had his done on many of the cars/speakers he's owned. Not keen on something like that?

I would imagine a little silicone sprayed onto a cloth and wiped onto the rubber should keep it supple.

Just theorising, but could be worth a shot?

definitely not oil. I will just a little silicone spray or leave it alone and out of direct sunlight(if it is). Maybe one of those rubber restore/protection things from Meguiars etc if you have it lying around.
