Valvematic.... way of the future?

have just been on a new car features training course for work, all about the new avensis and " valvematic ". personally i think its a great idea, unfortunatly i cant post the material given to me in the course but i've googled some stuff. oh and its nothing like v-tec or the 2zz's variable lift setup.

lift varies from 1mm to 11mm and duration from 106 degrees to 280 degrees.

exactly the same result, but IMO the toyota's setup is more reliable mechanically.

recommended oil for the motor is 0w20

interesting... but 150HP from a 2L engine... hardly exciting performance.

For some reason I was expecting to read 230HP from a 2L or similar, but with a better torque curve than typical high HP/L.

Saab's variable compression engine was revolutionary a few years ago but god knows what happened to that.

when i read about it they had just solved the sealing issues and got it running
seems to have dropped of the face of the earth....

but... if they make engines that are too efficient and reliable, we won't spend as much on gas, servicing and repairs :lol:

That multi compression system form Nissan looks interesting... looks to have few moving parts, which tends to mean less things to break.

I think the internal combustion engine is near the end of its life for a lot of uses....engine developers seem to spend millions just to get an extra 2% efficiency or power...

Electric powertrains are almost zero maintenance, no weighty/bulky exhausts, diffs, gearboxes etc, battery tech just keeps getting better and better too....they are my pic for the future of personal propulsion

That is exactly what will happen.
100% electric drive train, with either/both fuel cell and batteries.
