toyota vitz advice

Postby Cakky » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:25 am

Hey my girlfriend is looking at buying a Toyota Vitz, personally I don't really like them that much ( well the look anyway ) but she seems fairly keen on them and it's her money so it's up to her in the end.

However, just interested in knowing the pro's and con's for this vehicle, the one we are going to look at today is a 5 door, what should I be looking out for and are they prone to any mechanical failure at all??

Cheers

the RS has much nicer seats/interior, and the 1500 VVTI engine, and a few extra plastic bits on the outside so it doesnt look so nana-ish. definately the one to go for.

Not all RS's are 1500cc. And whilst they may be nicer they are also more expensive.
There's no real issues with them whatever model you're looking at.

Mechanically they're all pretty sound. Like all smallish cars these days they're quite flimsy.
Some people would suggest that they don't handle too well but then not everybody wants to race theirs.

i drove a 1l one, thought it went quite well i was really impressed, then i went to accelerate up a hill and my foot barely moved before it hit the floor, the throttles really short, id been pretty much flooring it everywhere (thinking i was cruising hahaha). so they are SLOW

drive a few and see what you think
no reliability issues i can recall with them.
1500 RS would be my pick, but i think they only 3 door.....
go for at least the 1300

Very good wee car, however dont get a 1litre.A car rental firm I know used Echos(same car)and only problems they had was a bearing in the manual gearbox would get noisy at high kms, like at 265000kms.

someone told me they don't even have a temperature gauge? instead they just have a warning light for when it overheats - even the RS has this.

Yeah, the wife's old work car (Nissan Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiida) had lights instead of a gauge, kept thinking highbeams were on when I'd drive it early in the morning

If it was a cold morning, then they could well have been on.

Nothing wrong with the 1000cc version. They actually go surprising well and did I mention they run of smell of an oily rag?

The temp warning light isn't a problem.

My opinion...
1L sucked
1L with turbo kit was ok
1300 was fun-ish
1500 was fun... and fun in a "you're still below the speed limit but feel like you're racing" kind of way

ok so she has now bought it lol, I was pretty unimpressed on the test drive but couldn't convince her otherwise not to buy it, got it for a fairly good price compared to what others seem to be going for so well I guess if the missus is happy well she'll stay off my back :P hahaha

she has agreed to let me find some better wheels for it though so might be able to make it look a little less non generic. stud pattern anyone?
