any proof to back that claim up??Adoom wrote: The 302 will be a huge heavy lump of cast iron. The 1UZ is all alloy. MUCH lighter.
30kg Pffft, have seen numbers for 1UZ a smidgen under 200kg, but unsure what un-needed accessories were weighed? which is smaller and is better supported by many many years of factory and aftermarket supply?postfach wrote:Ford 302 V8 weighs 208kg, 1UZ is 177kg*
*according to the internets

The 302 will be a huge heavy lump of cast iron. The 1UZ is all alloy. MUCH lighter. It is still way heavier than a 4cylinder. You may also want to mount the 1UZ behind the engine x-member, which means you have to dispose of the whole firewall and make a new one.
I have heard that the 1UZ is 'similar' dimensions to the Rover V8.
There is a V8 Starlet in the lower Nth island somewhere, I saw it once when I was at manfield. He never opened the bonnet where I could see so I dunno what kind of V8 is was. The Starlet was kermit green and extra extra wide with some HUGE slicks on it.
OOOOH Look I have a photo!

you spend 5k on a Chev and you can can have 450-500hp and there isn't a big weight difference between that and a 1uz.
you put ally vette heads on it and that takes 30kgs off again.
a new set of edelbrock performer heads or world cup heads are 1800new,with valves and springs.
hyper pistons are 500 a set, eagle rods 600 a set etc etc,due to the fact its the most commonly produced motor in the world makes for cheap parts.
if you can find a old Donovan ally block or a rodec then there's no weight difference and its a smaller motor than a 1uz.
and it'll make a ton more torque, now add a turbo? hmmm then it gets interesting

you'll get a bluey for not appeasing the the 1UZ fanboys,Steve!!
the only thing that makes the 1UZ a good option is in a class like superstocks where 4l is on the cusp of the CI/CC limit (but they should of introduced an RPM limit to keep costs down).
