Like it has been for years and years?

they've never been banned. they've just always had to exit behind the rear-most opening door like any other exhaust outlet (which is what they are)

Was referring to the atmo bit, which I'm assuming was meaning screamer pipe with no muffler and venting before the passenger compartment.

sound

Postby docTRD » Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:03 pm

just read this thread and sh#t im pissd to hear about banning atmo venting BOV's. what will they crack down on next? its not BOV's that keep people awake at night its loud exhausts so fair enough having regulations regarding them but hey a lot of people like the sound of a BOV venting and ive never heard from anyone being annoyed at the sound really (except anti jap people). Next they'l be banning bodykits or shiny mags or something stupid like that because theyre too in your face and visually aggressive or some crap.

The submissions closed in something like September last year on that idea, so I wouldn't be too stressed about it becoming a law for some time yet.

Its illegal in a few states in Australia for both the noise side of it and the emissions side also.

There's people out there who like $&#$% kids too......

If they like the sound so much, let them vent it into their cabin

when you typed that out did you really think it was an appropriate comparison? I mean really?

I hate loud show off valves as much as the next person but at the same time I don't think they should be banned altogether :?

It was an intentionally ridiculous comparison

Is there any benefit to vent to atmo BOV?
At least with a recirc you can use the pressureised air to keep the turbo spinning.

Yeah after awhile I got so bored of the BOV venting on my Forester, plumbed it back in, sounded nicer and also went a bit harder and smoother too...

this can stall outthe compressor wheel and while the exhaust side is still trying to turn it undoes the nut, once this happens theres no going back

I thought they (most turbos at least?) were designed with a reverse thread so that the nut would effectively tighten when under load.....???

yea they do have revesrse thread, but he is right, the compressor wheel can get stalled and the exhaust wheel wants to keep spinning,, it can over time produce major shaft play and even snap the shaft,, happened to my mates subaru because the vacuum line fell of the bov therefore wasnt working, next thing the turbo shaft snapped,,!

dont buy a subaru! hahah
