HID Kits

Postby Makaveli » Mon Apr 06, 2009 9:19 pm

I would just like to know how good are the Trademe HID kits that go for about $200. I looked into Japanese HID kits and most of them around $1000 with the current exchange rate. Has anyone used them, are they quality products or cheap Chinese crap that stops working after 1 month?

Also do HID kits only come with 2 Bulbs? Meaning they only work on Low beam? So if I want to run on high beam as well I would need 4 ballasts and 4 bulbs correct (two HID Kits effectively)?

Thanks for any input :P

Hi/Low beam HIDs are usually HID for Low beam with a Halogen bulb for high beam

Have a look at the HID kits on Deal Extreme

My car has H4 Low Beam and HB3 High Beam.

BTW I do realize that HID conversions are illegal as per LTSA.

You also find that you run HID low beam as they're on constantly, high beam is flashed as well as on constantly. HID's can't really flash/blink whatever you want to call it, as they need a fraction to warm.

Yeah seems to be they only designed for the Low beam. I found some HIDs for $160. But I just dont know if they are good quality. Dont really want to spend $1000 for Japanese ones though (assuming they made in Japan of course, they might not be).

You get what you paid for. And those H4 hi/low beam kit ain't true hi/low beam, because HID's needs a warm up period, cars equiped with HID from factory usually have a seperate normal bulb for high beam.

made in China $78 delivered from trademe, H1's. Didn't even fit the housing had to use a lot of custom hack. But hey you get what you paid for.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

They are "true" HID actually as there is only a single arc in them used for both high and low, its never turned off.

And the kits are illegal.

And the cheap ones last as long as you'd expect cheap ones to last.

And the pattern they throw is complete ar*e biscuits (blames Revhead for that)
