Oil stains on concrete - HELP

Postby cat007 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 1:56 pm

Hey guys

Moving out of our flat soon and the carport being where my supra's lived for the past 1.5 years there's oil stains EVERYWHERE. Some about the size of a $2 coin - some the size of dinner plates lol

Any tips to get them off? I just tried with a small water blaster with a soap fitting on the end filled with degreaser, but that just cleaned the rest of the concrete and now the stains stand out even more LOL

HELP!! :)

I have had some success using washing powder and hot water. Just wet the stain with hot water and generously cover it with washing powder then go at it with a stiff bristled broom. Then hose it off.
If the stain is old as, it might help if you let the washing powder/water paste sit on the stain for a while.
It worked quite well on a new spill of filthy old g-box oil.

I used that supercheap degreaser thats cheap and also washing powder and water and scrubbed it with a broom. Worked sweet, I got a couple of litres of oil the ground

Yeah washing powder is good, i've used that on my tarseal drive with success. Wet the drive, sprinkle the powder on then pressure hose it off, worked for me.

mixed about 10 cups of washing powder and about 5 of pool chlorine powder in hot water and spread on drive with stiff broom. I guess I'll just leave it for a while

I'm upstairs and it still stinks haha

CRC contact cleaner. spray it on, and wipe it off.

Must be CRC contact cleaner, not electro clean or similar.

well it didn't really work anyway. It helped - but not a lot. I think I'll just go with the "its a drive, deal with it" theory

But for future reference - dish washing powder and a stiff brush doesn't affect deep old stains. I guess some sort of etching substance would be best.....

I soak it with degreaser let it sink in for a few minutes then soak it again. Then the real trick is to shovel dry dirt onto it to soak it up, has to be dry and really fine stuff. Clay works well - which is good because NZ is pretty much all clay lol.

Leave it over night and then shovel it up again.
