Bad Miss / Hessitation

Postby gtpornstar » Sat Apr 11, 2009 11:23 am

Trying to diagnose a problem on a VVT TT supra.

Happened suddenly during driving, noticed when going to acelerate.

Symptoms are

Idle is fine
But try to free rev it and missing/hessitation upon initial rev, if you accelerate more, intially it will hold
and miss (meaning it wont rev past a certain rpm) then after a second or so it will rev up ok.
Its also intermitant in the sense that sometimes its not as bad as others (think heat factor).

If it does clear up and you load it (eg boost) it will miss badly and not provide much boost if any.
You start to hear the turbos spooling as if a hose has come off.

I checked all hoses, seem fine (didnt go too much into detail).
Tried checking error codes, it has an E1 but no T1 or TE1 terminal
(well socket is there but no wire coming to it), so i shorted it with E1 and Ts
Now there are about 5 lights flashing.

Engine Light shows an 8 and a 9.
The ABS light shows 41, 51 and 78

Checked MAP Sensor, Air flow Sensor and TPS connections, all sweet.
Oh also couldnt get it to reset, tried removing efi fuses and then removed battery for 10 mins each. But didnt make any difference.
Maybe this ecu version needs a computer to plug in and clear it ??

Any ideas ?

Ignore 51 code, you probably had AC on when checking.
41 is TPS signal
78 is Fuel pump control signal
8 and 9 are probably wrong counted as I expected all codes to be 2 digit codes.
FYI 8 is intake air temp signal, 9 is SPD signal fault.
maybe 8 was 53 (knock sensor fault) and 9 was a 72 (A/C related? don't know)?

What looks like you have whole bunch of unrelated ECU fauts, maybe it is loose ground or faulty ECU?

actually would you know what the tps reading should be on a supra or how to find out ? Thinking of checking that first and then maybe the fuel computer.

also is it normal that it doesnt have a TE1 or T1 port ?

I would assume that is normal.

sounds to me like a HT miss too, coil tubes firing out the side etc etc.

Got the AE101 going and it developed a miss, was a dodgy plug. Supra had a miss under load which was as simple as plug gaps being wrong for that engine. Check basic stuff and see where you're at

Poped it back and it was back to boost happy mode.
