I sold my fairly mint gunmetal grey manual gts25 r32 about 2 years ago for 5500 on 18's .I was amazed I got that much people were calling me at all hours offering stupid money. So if its mint it would be close to the 7k mark.

My old one was on trademe a few months ago for 10k with a rb25det conversion.

Another thing that went worng with mine was the air flow meter if not already mentioned.

rollaholic do by 'TRUENO' do you mean ae86? if so why o why swap it for a r32? you wouldnt catch me dead doing that. but each to their own i guess.

yes there is a difference between de and det gearboxs. det gearboxs are much stronger. however im not so up on how to tell the differences. det gearboxs have allot of extra 'webbing' on the casing which vl commodore and de dont, or thats how i understand it.

I've done stupid amounts of miles in a bog stock R32 GTST-M (standard exhaust, cat, everything), and it never returned worse than 10km/l even under fairly hard use.

Great car, I enjoyed it a lot.

If the owner hadn't been such a complete cockmunch, I probably would have bought it off him a few years ago.

yeah thats me. small world aye, a mate of his recently bought an AE85 of a guy i know. they turned up at my place and was like, you look familiar... the car is exceptionally straight considering its age and the badge on the bootlid. its not perfect but defintely pretty good.

oh and the passenger vent IS broken, it just looked intact from a distance :(

from the way he talked he definitely drives it hard on occasion, though thats quite different from thrashing a car imo. seems like a good guy, and is actually into cars as opposed to being into looking cool or whatever it is that attracts the flat peak types to skylines.

my trueno is an AE85, but yeah is only missing a few things for a complete conversion. has been a fun car, a large part of me doesnt want to get rid of it but i just feel like its time to move on to something else. actually i was / am trying to sell it but this came up and as i mentioned earlier i've always wanted an R32 coupe, and i figure i'll still be able to get the money i want if / when i decide to sell. so yeah two birds with one stone i guess.

thats what i meant, it he hasnt gone "turn the boost up auuuu" and gone out for a night of flat shifting, skids, limiter launches and drifting. he drives it harder than your average person(hey, what person that owns one of them doesnt), but looks after it and doesnt do dumb shit.
EP82 GT-went mega hard for completely stock, 15.09 quarter, gone now :(

What? Yes they do. I think you're confused with the RB20/30E vl box which has black breather hose, both DE and DET Nissan boxes can have an orange breather.

The main difference in the boxes is the webbing, and little else! They're as strong as each other, the later model ones seem to have better bearings however. I know plenty of guys who run non-turbo gearboxes behind modded RB20DETs with no worries, they don't break any faster than turbo boxes.. in fact, I work with a guy who used a RP71 out of a diesel C32 Laurel, the only difference was a slight change in ratios. That gearbox lasted almost two years before shitting itself, and hes' the kind of guy who does skids everywhere, flat shifts.. it broke after he ran semi-slicks and tried doing a burnout on new tarseal outside his house!

So yeah, its' all in how you drive it. In fact, if you can get the car for half an hour, I'd pull the ECU and check the codes, its' in the passenger footwell, behind the plastic panel on the outermost side, just google R32 ecu diagnostic codes for a decent how-to, there are a few. Also if he did a proper conversion, he should have grounded pin 44 on the ECU, which is the neutral idle-up switch.

Anyway.. I could talk crap all day, get an AA check if you're really worried.

well, i put the new box in today. its alot better than the old one (i got a complete tooth off a gear in the oil out of the old one). theres a bit of a whine in third under acceleration, and the input shaft front bearing seems to be a little noisy. but other than that is good.

the clutch has a 9 inch plate, and a 6 bolt cover. can anyone confirm the 9 bolt cover thing?

interestingly, the box i took out had no breather (the place it was meant to be was capped with a plastic plug that looked very standard) and very little webbing. was labelled RP71C iirc. the new box was RB71C and had heaps of webbing and a breather.

do these engines normally have a brace to the bottom of the gearbox from the engine?

overall i wasnt as impressed with the way it drives as i expected, doesnt seem to make much usable power till about 5k or so. are there some easy ways to get a few more ponies out of these things?

cheers

Sounds like it had a non-turbo box in it. Perhaps they've used the VL Commodore conversion which has a 230mm (9") 6-bolt flywheel. I've found most non-turbo RBs have a 225mm 6-bolt, turbo RBs use the 240mm 9-bolt. Sounds like the new box is the turbo version, this box was from a GTSt..

Image

You can get decent aftermarket clutches for the smaller flywheels, finding a 9.5" turbo flywheel that isn't part of a conversion kit is quite difficult, so I wouldn't worry too much with a stock engine.

There should be 2 big fat braces from engine to bottom of gearbox, as per this pic (taken looking back at the autobox from under the engine), as well as a thin dust cover.
Image

Power wise.. usual exhaust and intake, front mount intercooler, a larger RB25DET turbo is a good cheap upgrade, bolts up with a few mods to the oil lines. Bigger fuel pump from a 300zx or GTR supposedly makes a big difference too. Don't wind more than 10-12psi into the factory turbo if you want it to last!
