yeah the new hiluxs are also made entirely in thailand
we were a bit concerned by that! but seems to not be an issue so far

speaking of mitsi, i find it amusing (and as the boss has one, he finds it alarming) that they have issued a recall due to faulty booster valve on the 2008 lancers. or at least they have over seas, mitsi nz say not nessicary.... :o *remembers truck wheel stud issue....*

How about them V8 Diesel landcruisers which have oil consumption issues from NEW?

Or the 1KD-FTV Diesels which were recalled for being too rattley.

Or the seatbelt pre-tensioner fault in Yaris which could cause a fire after a collision.

I could go on, really.

Having said that - the difference between Toyota and Mitsubishi is that Toyota own up to the faults and repair it straight away, Mitsubishi on the other hand....

those V8s hadnt been out all that long when i left toyota, so never heard that one. going to piss off some rich bastards though!

the hilux was a non issue, the common rail engine makes a different noise to regular diesels and there was a big panic about them by some ppl, anyway after toyota taking back some vehicles and testing them it was found thats just how they are... memo went out saying TNZ would not take any back as there was no fault. was never a recall. im sure TRDGT4 could eloborate more!

anyway this is going off topic! :P

Rattley common rail diesel, clutch shudder, leaky gearboxs.. lol theyr fine!

They have a field fix for people who complain about the noise, they replace the injectors & pipes.

Yaris recall was blown out of proportion, only 2 cases in the world so far. Its just a bit of foam that gets taken out.

Avensis bonnet looks like a toilet seat.

pipes must be replaced whenever they are touched due to the pressures involved.
there was a spate of injector warranty's due to the noise, and again a memo came out saying this was not an issue and no more would be honored under warranty

it was my understanding it was something to do with the injector timing, and that a re-flash of the ECU repaired it?

not unless thats something thats happened since may last year.

now the V8 land cruisers ecus... thats another thing
forgot about that until you mentioned it, but when we got our first 2, we had them a day when urgent message came from TNZ telling us to leave them exactly where they are now, do not start or attempt to drive them. they apparently had the wrong ecus in them.... the word was that would cause them to shut down and not restart. ever. so we had to leave exactly where they sat until a truck came to collect them and they went back to TNZ! maybe thats the ecu thing you heard about.

nah it definitely wasn't that - it was definitely Hilux and Hiace related with the 1KD-FTV engines - they sound alright for the first few thousand kms but around 20,000kms+ they get really rattly - I was speaking to a fleet operator who has Hiluxes and said his all went back to the dealership, something was changed to do with the ECU and injectors and they all came back quiet. A couple of Hilux and Hiace owners on Trademe message boards did the same.

Pretty sure that Mitzi recall is in NZ too

And lol at oil consumption issues. The PT Cruisers seemingly have a factory allowance of 1L per 1000kms as acceptable. Getting out of warranty perhaps?

interesting, never heard of that one! we did some injectors under warranty, but only a few cases of individual ones. no full sets and nothing to do with ecu. but i have been away from toyota for a year now, so im sure there are things that i havnt heard about

Check here - http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php ... &sk=t&sd=a

a 38 page thread of Aussies whinging about it, with many references of the ECU and/or injector timing.

This isn't a dig at Toyota by the way, I just thought I would bring it to your attention if you didn't know.

My Mitsubishi has not even travelled 20,000kms on its rebuild and already it's broken another tappet and possibly a rocker arm :?

yeah but aussies are whingers :P
nah i know your not diging, this is quite interesting to me....
when they first came out, most ppl at the dealership thought, "nice, but dont seem as tough as last model" if i was a farmer etc id stick with the older model

interesting they are also talking about the prado, i can honestly say iv never heard of a single case of that same issue in prados over here. or for that matter, that much of an issue with the hilux. by that i mean as many as ppl are saying in that thread.
i do wonder if some ppl are mistaking the different sound made by the D4 for an issue?

interesting they start talking about fuel quality, i did the new vehicle course when they came out and they were very specific about fuel quality and correct filters etc.

i may call some ppl i know still at toyota and quiz them on it, got me interested now! sounds like there may have been more developments after i left as when i was there we got that memo stating no issue etc.
have you heard of any engines being damaged though? i havnt heard of a single one.

fuel, you work for mitsi dont you? know of any rust issues in 2008 lancer wagons?
boss has one for work car, it needed a new windscreen the other week and when smith and smith had it apart i had a look and noticed rust starting around the brackets that hold the wiper mechanism 8O
not just light surface rust, but actual rust appearing from under those brackets

nah I don't work for them, just unfortunate enough to own them.

haven't heard of rust issues but I think it is happening alot with new cars with their water based paints - ford territory is a prime example of rusting off the showroom floor.

Theres an ECU reprogramming thing for some slightly older hiaces, they run a bit crap and stall after start up after a few 1000 kms, maybe thats it?
