What V8 front wheel drive cars are there?

Postby Dragger_Dan » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:26 am

Me and my dad were discussing engine swaps into various vehicles and we were wondering - what cars came out with a front wheel drive V8. I know there was the caddilac V8 that Bill Strong put into the back of an AW11... did the japs make anything similar?

Only thing that springs to mind is I seem to remember reading something about oldsmobile v8s. Thats probably in line with the Caddy V8 you are talking about. (same stable etc)

I know the Lamborghini Miura is a 4.0 litre V12 transverse mounted mid engine car. That's the only car I know of that is bigger than a V6.

Way more V6's transverse mounted in FWD cars.
Get like a late maxima 3.0 V6 and turbo or supercharge it.
Or try fit a 1UZ to a FWD box or something.....

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

to the limits of my knowledge, only the Yanks were silly enough to chuck a V8 in a FWD car....not that they output much power anyway ;)

In saying that a 3.8l V6 (i.e. Diamante) is getting pretty close to V8 capacity.

Why bother with a V8?? I'd expect most of the FWD V8 engines out there made no more (if less) power than the easier to source and work with Japanese V6s running around now. The 3.5l V6 in the Honda Legends make up around 220kw with gobloads of torque :D

If we were using common sense, yes, a V6 or a turbo 4 would make sense, but the noise a V8 makes will always beat the 4 and the 6.
