Cleaning windscreen

Postby astrae » Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:48 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm driving a car at the moment that has a really dirty windscreen and I just can't get it clean, inside and out.

The car had a cut and polish and I think some of this may have got on the windscreen. Its like dash cleaner or something is on the inside.

I've tried cleaning it with two types of general glass cleaner (tried with paper towels and soft lint free cloths) and some automotive glass wipes.

All I get is a smeary mess which is terrible at night when lights are shining on it. Normally I just use general glass cleaner, spray it on, wipe away and it evaporates nicely. With this car its like there is rainex on the inside and out and it just smears everything.

Anyone suggest something I could use to strip it back? I have got a small bottle of IP Alcohol. I looked in supercheap and they sell automotive glass cleaner but its like $20 a bottle.

glass cutting compound, makes it so smooth and slick you dont need wipers if you're doing above 60-70kph

Dont mean to thread hijack, but i have a similar issue, when my car windscreen gets wet or fogs up you can see where the dealer has written the price and put stickers on etc, any ideas on how to get rid of this? Maybe this cutting compound?

simple green and wipe off wth microfiber cloth. Then follow up wit Meguiars Glass Cleaner and use fresh microfibre cloth.

Anyone who is serious about keeping their car clean should have microfibre cloths in their kit.

Dont use the stuff that removes water spots from windows and shower doors. I used it but it seems to have removed the top layer to the glass, now rainwater sticks like sh1t to a blanket.

are you guys ready for the proest pro tip ever?
when cleaning glass, use newspaper instead of paper towels/terry clothes/yourface.

For reals, try it out. Rocks hard.
